For Gail: About an IFSP http://www.downsyn.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=409 Tom
Before you go into the IFSP, you should analyze every aspect of your daughters development, making a list of her strengths and weaknesses. Any area where her development is delayed should be noted. You should then try to determine how delayed she is and what kind of therapy should best help her. So if she is not crawling at the age where she should be crawling, you should put physical and occupational therapy on your list. If she is not babbling at the age appropriate level, then you should put speech therapy on your list. You should not go into the IFSP asking them what they think your daughter needs. You should know beforehand what you want. You should be telling them what services your daughter needs and how often you want them.

Find an early intervention center and ask them for help. They should be able to give you advice on how much therapy your daughter needs. Contact the NDSS or a local Arc chapter for help.

You should also ask for services for you and your family such as respite care, parent education, sibling support, etc. ]]>
