He was admitted at 1:20 am on Sunday morning...as of now we have no clue what is wrong. He stopped breathing Saturday about 12:30 pm and was turning blue and arched his head back...it was terrible. I really don't have much info...they've done TONS of tests on him and have ruled pretty much everything out...they have him on an apnea monitor right now...I don't know for sure if that is what happened or not, but they are talking of sending him home on a monitor. Poor boy, he is black and blue from all the needle sticks, and he is ready to go home! I'm so sorry you are going through this. The same thing happened to my granddaughter, Olivia, who also was born with Down Syndrome. It was the day they brought her home from the hospital. She was only a few days old. My daughter-in-law was holding her at the time. They called an ambulance and took her to the ER. The ER doctor didn't have a clue as to what was wrong, didn't run any tests or anything. They just sent them home. I called my sister who is a nurse, and she said they needed to get a monitor for her, which they did. She had sleep apnea, but eventually outgrew it. I don't remember how long they had to use the monitor, but I think by the time she started rolling over they no longer needed it. I know that she had to go through a sleep study, an echo-cardiogram of her heart, and also a swallow study, I believe. Olivia had reflux and two small holes in her heart and I think that had something to do with her breathing difficulties. I'm glad that your experience at the hospital was better, and more thorough than Olivia's. I'm sorry now that I didn't call that doctor up and give him a piece of my mind! I know this has to be a very scary time for you. But, I hope you find some comfort in knowing that Olivia seemed to go through the same thing, and is doing just great. That is so scary!! The same thing has happened to Talitha several times but nobody knows what caused it. It even happened in the hospital while we were seeing the paediatrician, but that time it was caused by choking from the reflux. Every night when I go to sleep I pray and ask God to keep her breathing. I hope they find out what is causing it for Elijah, without sticking any more needles in him. We will pray for him. __________________

UPDATE Hey everyone...thank you for all of your prayers. So, for the update. Elijah has influenza and as of now it's pretty severe. He also has sleep apnea and is on the monitor and has sent it off a few times, a couple of which he had to be stimulated to wake him up. he usually comes out of it himself. He's not feeling well at all. He's on antibiotics and a few monitors. He's been poked so many times, everytime they draw blood by the time it gets to the lab it clots so they have to do it over. He's been running a fever, coughing, throwing up, and you can just tell when you look at him that he feels terrible. This morning they did the upper GI test and we are still awaiting the results. We're also waiting on the results from Adena hospital (at home). They did the urine culture, EKG, and some blood work there. I'm so upset right now that I can't think. The dr. told me last night that if I wouldn't have gotten him here, that it could have been devestating. Guys, please keep praying for him. I'm so scared right now. Jon is about worried to death, and he is here with us. He is FINALLY taking some time off work but unfortunately it took this for him to do it. So, I'll update as soon as we know something else. ANOTHER UPDATE Drs were just in and they said that he does have influenza and reflux. They are talking of sending him home tonight with an apnea monitor. He is seeming to be feeling a little bit better. He is eating well and tolerating his feeds well. He is doing much better and hopefully he is out of the woods now.
