Hi all, I took Hannah to the dentist today and he finally agreed it is time to take out some of her baby teeth. She seems to retain them and the permanent teeth grow in causing her to have rows of teeth(kind of like a shark!) So anyway on July 2 he is going to pull seven of her baby teeth and place top and bottom spacers in the hopes that it will straigten out her teeth placement a bit. He did also confirm that she is missing at least two of her permanent teeth.I am just wondering how well she will tolerate the spacers and thinking ahead to the future about braces. We are not sure at this point how well she will do with them. She does ok with the dental work in general-although she does tend to be a biter. She has broken that little mirror before and today she bit the hygenist(not on purpose)while they were doing impressions.I did get a laugh though when I told her that Hannah has had her rabies shots. So anyway, anyone with experince with the spacers or braces yet????

Not yet, but Cassie will be getting a palate expander and thumb-sucking appliance in a week and a half so we will be on a similar journey around the same time.

Nicole is just 7 and 3 out of 4 permenant teeth came in behind her baby. Two have finally fallen out but the other one is staying strong. I just worry about the perm. tooth getting decay but I try to make sure I brush between them well. Her dentist is not worried yet. Good luck with everything, i'm sure you will need it!!!!

Nope... Regan had 6 teeth pulled when she was about 7 years old or so but she didn't have spacers put it at all. Regan also had a palette expander when she was about 11 or so.. it made a world of difference but she still has an over bite.
I really don't know if Russell will have orthodontist work done.. he is doing ok loosing his teeth and the adult ones coming in so all is ok for now. We still need to get Regan her braces, her ortho work got put on hold and it's time we finish...it's just so DANG EXPENSIVE!!!!!

When Angela was 7 she had 7 teeth pulled for the same reason...new teeth coming in but her baby teeth were holding firm, and on xray there was no sign of the root deteriorating like it was supposed to. She was toothless in front for MONTHS before those new teeth all filled in!
Angela never had spacers though. I don't know if it's just a new thing, but it was only 4 years ago so you wouldn't think THAT much has changed. LOL
She has one tooth that has been slightly loose for about 9 months now. I think it's time the pull it out! We go back to the orthodontist in June, and I was told THAT is when the fun stuff will begin! Palate expaner, jaw expander, correct her cross bite, then braces. Fun Fun

I had a whole host of orthodontial work - are you meaning spacers like the little rubber bands they put between the teeth BEFORE palate expanders??
I don't know if they still do that, but if that's what she's getting - make sure they show you what to do if they fall out (the rubber bands), cause that happens.
As for the palate expanders - will you have to turn a key every day to expand her palate?
Just I guess to prepare you, these both hurt I was miserable with the spacers, my teeth got quite loose (not falling out loose, but they are meant to prepare your mouth for the expander).
I think it will definitely help if you make sure to stay on top of giving Hannah some pain meds!

They are not spacers like the ones between the teeth(I had those also-braces TWO times for a total of six years, not fun) They look more like retainers that go on the roof of the mouth and on the bottom behind the teeth. I don't know why they are called spacers. The whole Idea is once the teeth are out this will hopefully guide the adult teeth into place.I should take a picture of her teeth, I have never seen anything like it before.
