Colin recently determined that he like "adjusting himself" and scratching his but!

I would use a belt....... but (no pun intended) he can't get it off to pee and potty training is really more important to me...... and he is starting to do this better and ask to potty and is really participating.

BUT SCHOOL and his teachers really would like him to quit leaving his "butt butter" every where! (and I do understand)

It was worse when we had shorts on......cause he would go up through his legs too!

HELP!!!! Mom who hates conferences!

I'm no help but can commiserate. Callum constantly has his hands down his pants, he removes them when asked but I have to remind him every 10 minutes!! Like you I'm not going to go the belt route as he needs to be independent at going to the toilet.

Kieran does it as well, but not quite so often.

I do find that telling him to put his hands in his pockets works for a short lenght of time.

ugh! No advice..Kennedy does it too! And she will also remove it when we ask. Same here with the belt thing...even though her jeans come with the cutest belts, we don't use them due to the potty training thing.

Hmmmmm maybe a social story on how we should act and/or sit properly with our hands in our laps? Reward him for times he is NOT doing it and IGNORING (and I mean ignoring) the bad behavior... and if he is leaving his "butt butter" (love that term by the way, will file that away for future usings) everywhere, let HIM clean it up!

When all else fails.... DUCK TAPE his hands to his sides?????

Razz

p.s. I got your call.... we STILL don't see the inserts at our house... you changed the kids in my living room.. we looked under the couches, etc... and we all haven't seen them... are they in the back pack?

A.

We're using Elidel on Alex's rear... he likes to do the scratching thing too. It stops him a little...but not entirely.

Maybe it's a guy thing? LOL Rolling Eyes

Brock has this behavior too, although more so at home than school. I'm not sure why but he seems to mind the rules of school more so than at home, I guess I'm not viewed by him as much of a disciplinarian. I find that if we tuck his shirt in it limits or discourages the hands in the pants. Brock is still in diapers and potty training is in the works. We generally don't do belts and he wears a lot of slick running pants. Our response (mine and Dh's) is "Brock hands out of your pants" he usually responds.

Good luck my son does the same. He is always scratching his but or pulling on the other. When he is at school with clothes on he is not as bad. Briar loves to go in the buff at home I cannot keep clothes on him .

PS In Briars kindergarten conference we were told Briar has a problem with grabbing the teachers boobs. Just be thankful your little one is not doing that!

What can I say Briar is his fathers son! LOL

Well you won't like to hear this, but Noah is 9 and STILL does this. I really think it's a habit mostly because he started doing this as he would stand and wait for his movies to load up on the VCR, like he was bored and this was something he could do in the meantime. His hand is always in the back, scratching his butt, he doesn't do the front weeter thing (THANK GOD Shocked ), but still it ain't pretty!!!!

I went to the Goodwill the other day to look for some books and this particular Good will has a ton of teens and adults working there with special needs, especially Ds. (That's really why I go there Razz ) Anyway, as I am looking at the books, a young man with Ds, around 20 or so, had his hand inside his sweat pants SCRATCHING HIS BUTT. Shocked OMG the superviser told him that it was inappropriate and to go to the bathroom and wash his hands and to NEVER do that again while at work. My first thought. Lordy I hope Noah still isn't doing this at 20!!! Shocked Shocked

I know this is gross. but.. if the kids are in school, you might want to have them treated for pinworms. They maybe scratching cause they are itching! I You can get pin-x from the pharmacy, Its not prescription. Or you can ask the doc for a prescription for a pill. I read somewhere that they estimate 85% of people have these. Nasty.
