I still have all of Clara's old IFSP's and IEP's - I don't mind keeping some to track her progress, but I'm wondering how long I need to keep every communication from the school - prior written notice for meetings, just tons of papers!

If I had only one I would keep all for three years....... but that said. We have so many re" ieps" to go over stuff (last year 37 diffenrt meetings evals and etc.)

So I keep the current ones in a notebook (the if I die you need these things notebook) and then in the kids specific file drawers I have a current iep and evals (only 3 years back) and last two copies in the same drawer.

Then after that I have a huge bin I keep meaning to shred (cause more than than names on them and over3 years out of date............with tons of papers and supporting paper work)

THis is what I do! (don't ask about medical records!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with an immense shred pile - that's one of the things I don't feel comfy doing around toddlers and forget about in the evenings!

I pulled files out of the cabinet months ago and they have been sitting in stacks in the office waiting for a child free time to go through them. Since I was silly to think that would happen, I moved them to the dining room table this am and went through them. Now the current IEP is in it's own folder and the older stuff is at the back of the file cabinet.

I also had Clara's SSID paperwork to go through. I decided to shred all but the current notice and to save every paycheck stub I've ever sent them.

You know what's really bogging me down? Valic! We both have a small 401k with them and the notices and reports are insane! Talk about a ton of stuff to shred! I wonder if I can request less updates - they're too depressing to look at anyway!

BINDERS!!! Smile You have any? If not start them!

I have Russell's in a 3 inch binder. I would highly suggest you starting one if you don't already have one. In fact I just started ones for my girls too that everytime I get something new it goes on top. Some people use tabs and "subjects" for theirs, but I do what our MPACT encourages, which is in date order, intermingled, last item you received on top... because the IEP you need will be closest to the top. You put in your IEP's, letters, work samples, notice of actions, etc.....

I have a seperate binder for our social worker stuff... we have Regional Center in MO and I house that stuff seperately. And then if you need a seperate binder for medical you could do that.... I don't have one of those, that is either filed or what I need with school or Regional Center stuff it's in those binders.

I am more and more about binders lately...... LOL

I even bought more binders lately and need more.... my MPACT stuff is in different binders and just feel my life is all about organizing in binders.

Now.. that said, Russell is 11 and we have many years of IEP's and IFSP's.... so we only keep the last few years in the binder...everything else we keep packed up. Some people, like myself, haven't thrown anything away yet... others only keep like 3 yrs worth. I am a keeper... but I also keep old school work I did and text books LOL

A.

Believe it or not, we have no bookshelves for binders, DH had multiple issues with my bookshelves when we married (never understood that one) so we gave $300 of bookshelves to GoodWill and have never been able to afford to replace them. My books have been in the attic for 2 years and what little closet space I have in the guestroom is packed with photos and spare linens (we have no linen closet). So the filing cabinet is where this stuff has to go for now!

Well, if you take out the files and the papers and put them in binders, they should then fit in the filing cabinet after the files are gone Wink heehee

I'd still do binders...stack them up in a corner..... what do you take to an IEP meeting?
