had to edit I thought it was 'My baby" not "your baby" Wink

Anyone that has the program what do you think? I know of one baby that was reading at 18mths and has Down syndrome. I’m feeling it with Aden heading off to Prep next year.

Had Education Queensland come out this week, to meet Aden and start setting up things for next year.
She was very positive saying lots of lovely things about Aden and how he’s such a likable boy lol
Anyway when I mentioned “reading programs” and how they are going to teach Aden…she was saying things like “everyone needs to be realistic in their goals for Aden” huh?
Well I have the same expectations for Aden as I do with all my children.

Well I should say I have expectations on myself, to help my children reach their own potential, with out limiting them. I see my job as figuring out how my children learn and yes I have failed this before and I dont want to stuff up with Aden.

All kids learn different there are some great resources out there for our kids, just have to find what works. I didn’t’ find “see and Learn” working for Aden after a certain point. We may go back to it later though.

Thanks sorry for the ramble. I'm working myself up Very Happy

I am interested too. As soon as I have some cash I am going to subscribe to Reading Eggs but I know that Talitha isn't ready for the actual reading stuff yet - I am getting it for the pre-reading games and for the early readers that come with it.

If there is enough positive stuff about "My baby can read" I am keen to try it too.

I have Reading Egg for Matthew he did great reading at 4yrs and has just been tested in year one, he's reading level 25 which is end of year 3 level if you have a good reader. I'm not so sure it's a good one for Aden though. takes so long getting through the letter sounds, maybe when he is older hmm.

I have tried and he enjoys the ants that pop up and other animals. but yeah not getting it yet.

I have been thinking of making a slide show but it woudl take forever lol and I have no time. so think I should give "you baby can read" ago.
hoping we can buy it this month but no coal bonus for the next few months we might be hunting our own food if I'm not careful. see how the bills stack up first.

OK - Just read Stacy's blog. That is wonderful to hear. I too have thought about purchasing the "Your baby can read". I have been using my own flash cards and Mark seems to be learning a lot from them so for now I am going to save my money, but I am going to be interested to see how your boys are doing, Stacy.

I haven’t looked at your blog yet Stacey will once Aden goes to sleep.

I post on facebook and it turned out my neighbour had them! She only has 4 of the DVD and is still looking for the books. She brought them over yesterday. So I got them for free which is wonderful, thank you my beautiful new neighbour.

Ok so Aden watched one yesterday and instantly I knew he’d have to watch a heck of a lot of TV to read….so we differently need to books cards whatever else comes with it or I make my own.

Other negative was I was disappointed in the choice of words they chose, really why does Aden need to know the colour “Violet” things like sight words “if, said, when” would have been great, and just the regular primary colours for now. Is enough in my opinion.

And I missed the mark ugh. I just know it, we might scrap in a few months I hope. Aden is 4yrs and busy, he sat through one DVD got up a few times. They just aren’t going to hold his attention over and over like they would have 12mths ago.
Age 2 and 3 Aden would have I’ve missed him by 12mths. Ya know how as a mum you just know? Well that is how I felt.

Age 2 to 3yrs Aden would sit and watch shows like ..baby Einstein. Though he really did love the songs, we have sung them for the past 4yrs of his life the past 6mths he wont let me sing things like ‘old MacDonald” he did like singing to the video’s though. For now anyway.

A welcome surprise was “Baby Einstein” and why I’m going to put them on a few times and will use them in the car for our long 6hour trips to Target lol.
Aden when he watched them ( he did sit through nearly an entire DVD) he repeated very word that was said. Yes he did it was awesome words that he has never tired to say before and he was saying them. Best darn Speech Therapy the child has ever received!!!!!!! I’m so excited, so for this reason I feel they are worth having. I’ll post back and let you all know how it goes if he drops off with repeating the words, I’ll try gathering video of him in the next few days to.

If he learns a few words out of the video’s good if not I don’t care if he keeps repeating words that is enough for me.
I cant tell you how good it was to hear him trying so many knew words.

I’m going to look into the sight cards and see how we go.

Just thought I'd mention that I've heard that the Reading Egg program is free to try until mid august. I haven't had a chance to check it out myself yet, although we have used some other programs & home made flashcards & my dd who is almost 3 reads quite a few words. I think it is really helping her vocab & speech as well.

There's a yahoo group called 'teachyourbabytoread' here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachYourBabyToRead/

Might be worth looking at? But Aden's not a baby anymore Wink so it might not be relevant...
