Getting curcumin into a preschooler

We've been trying to give Christopher Longvida Curcumin in the evenings, mixed with his supper, but it's turning into quite a mess! Whereas the powder in his gingko capsules comes out easily, the curcumin is hard-packed in there. By the time I manage to peel the outer layer off, my fingers are all yellow. His bowl and tray and bib are now stained yellow. And it doesn't come out of clothing very well. His teeth even end up yellow sometimes! And I'm only giving him 500mg at a time, whereas 1000mg is recommended. Has anyone successfully administered this to a child too young to swallow a capsule whole, and if so, how?

Thanks,
Jan

Yeah I'm giving Noah curcumin, I give him only 500mg, but it's not the longvida. It's a capsule that is packed with powder...and I just slowly mix it and hope that it doesn't make too much mess LOL.

We give Alexandrine Longvida Curcumin (2 capsules per day). Alexandrine was tube fed and that was really hard to get to go through the tube so I find orally is easier.

We tried powder and capsules.
Powder: tends to fly all over the place (eletrostatic). Messy if you drop the container.
Capsules: Hard to empty but after practice, I can empty them by separating the two parts and squeezing with two fingers starting at the opening moving them slowly towards the other end.

We use capsules because I dropped a full container of powder on the floor once (at a friend's house), cleaned the floor for several hours, did 2 loads of laundry and decided that powder just wasn't working for me.

I empty the capsules in fruit purees, apple sauce or yogourt - 2 capsules in about one yogurt container or equivalent purees. In the beginning, I fed her to make sure there wasn't a staining mess on her but now that she's eating better, she eats it herself.

Thank you! I tried it in yogurt this afternoon, and it worked great. So did your squeeze technique.

Butterscotch pudding works great for us. I roll the capsules bavk and forth and then squeeze out. I do get yellow stained fingers though. I follow curcumin with a glass of milk. Inread the absorbation is better in fatty liquid.

I hated the capsules! I find the powder much easier to deal with. I am very careful to put the lid back on very quickly though.

If I were giving it to a very young child, I would use a bib as the stains are impossible to get out.

I put all the powdery vitamins on spoon and mix with a drop of water not to be dry and give to swallow during meal time. I don't want to spoil the tase of food and in that way I can make sure that she eats all the vitamins and everything stays clean.

Curcumin is a potent anti inflammatory, and antioxidant, and promotes neurogenesis (studies show them all)

most curcumin is not so bioavailable. Longvida was developed by UCLA reserachers and they chose the best formulation out of all the ones they developed. The one that went on to be called Longvida also penetrates the blood brain barrier, and is used to treat alzheimer's (our kids develop alzheimer like changes in the brain too)

tons of info

Qadoshyah and Andi are both top notch researchers!

you mean Longvida? No need to worry- it doesn't oxidize easily (unlike Nutrivene-D). We bought a huge kg bag almost a year ago, it is totally fine. We were told it could stay in a relatively cool place (do NOT heat it in any way) we just keep it in the dining room in a drawer- and that it'd be fine for a couple of years. It is just fine, we are about 1/2 way through. I can afford to take it now, too, though putting it into capsules for myself stinks. I can take it in jam, though.

No Liora:)! I meant that I put the lid on right away so tgat I don't accidentally spill it. I'd cry if I spilled a full bottle of LC like pp mentioned!
