We drove from MN to the NDSC conference in DC. From there drove to Philadelphia where Axel was having a check up with his spine surgeon. I can't believe his surgery was a year ago in May! His check up was great, and he doesn't need to be seen again for a year. Most of his restrictions have been lifted. The only things left are hard contact sports (like football, gymnastics, and trampolines.)
I had also asked if it was possible to have Asher added to the schedule since I've been a bit uneasy about some of his X-rays recently. They were actually of his spine, not his neck. The surgeon had his c-spine (neck) X-rays done while we were there.
Asher has AAI.
I'm still a bit stunned.
Asher's measurement is at 6mm. We are holding off on an MRI at this time, and will repeat his X-rays here at home (with a different rad. tech) in 6 months, and shriners wants to see him back in one year. He is on full restrictions: no tumbling, no trampolines our bounce houses, no horseback riding, no sledding, no contact sports, roller coasters or other activities that cause jarring to the neck. No being a kid.
In typical kids, the gap usually gets smaller as they age. In kids with DS it's pretty much 50/50. Some get better with age and some get worse. Obviously we hope that Asher is in the 50% who improve!
And so, since I've managed to find two kids from Serbia with DS and AAI, I'm going to start buying lottery tickets.

Yep, you have certainly beat the odds with Axel and Asher, may as well see if you can beat the lottery odds
Hoping with you that the gap closes for Asher and he doesn't need surgery.

LEAH.....I've been trying to write or say something constructive but words fail me! Even after trying to think what to say for a few days!
I'm the kind of person who tries to take something positive even from difficult situations!
But I'm afraid your post leaves me stunned and speechless!
Think of you and sending you positive vibes at this difficult time!
Man life sucks.....sometimes!

Thanks guys.
You know, we're not too upset about it. Stunned but not upset, if that makes sense. I just seems kind of par for the course here.
Me and my warped sense of priorities, the very first thought that came to mind was, "Good, now when we have to come back for check ups they'll pay for all of us to go!" (well all but Angela but that's ok.)
