Our 8 yr. old daughter would like to have a bike to ride. She needs a specialized bike with training wheels or an adult sized tricycle. They cost $2,000-$3,000 which we can't afford. Do any of the parents with older kids have one they want to sell?

Sorry I don't have a bike to sell, but I was just helping another friend looking for one of these on-line a few weeks ago.

You may have already checked these, but a few sites on the web that we found options at were:

www.wal-mart.com (search word= adult tricyle) They have them in the $300-$500 price range.

http://worksmancycles.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/juvenileadaptive.html
These are also in the $300-$500 price range.

Good luck! I hope you are able to find something that will work for your daughter at a reasonable price!!

We're just in the process of buying a special needs trike for Callum from http://www.tomcatspecialneeds.co.uk/trikes1.asp and yes they are expensive! Luckily for us family have chipped in to help us with the cost.

However the company sent us a long list of charties that have helped with funding. Most of them are UK companies so wont help you but they do have organizations like elks and rotary club listed so maybe try them or other similar organizations (knights of columbus, lions club, etc). You could also try contacting your local Down syndrome association or ARC to see if they could give you ides for where to get funding help. I just found DCRF and I'm sure there must be other similar organizations around.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for these referrals! I just looked at the worksman site and I think we'll find something that will work great for Katie. I'll let you know if we get one. Thanks for your help and encouragement.

I keep waiting for the SHIFT bike to finally get into production. In fact, I called the designer just now to check on progress. He says "soon...but not yet."

Here is what I am looking at for my daughter. I have not bought it yet. It's about $400 - $500, plus the cost of a bike. The advantage is that when your child needs a bigger bike, just replace the back wheel with the conversion wheel.

Have a great day!

HEYYYYY that's a cool looking bike!!!! Smile Russell is 9 and small and has vision issues so we are still on a trike style.
