We have our eligibility meeting and placement on Monday for Lily. She will be going into kindergarten. The team that was testing her has already told me ( off the record) she should go to regular kindergarten with minimal assistance. She does not qualify for speech/language, but will for ot & pt. I was wondering what kind of classroom goals, keeping it as few as possible, should we ask for ? Social skills and classroom because even though she knows her numbers, letters, shapes, and colors she cannot write or draw.
Thanks a lot ,
Natalie

Hi AJ,
Lily's heart is doing great ! In the 5 months since surgery, she has gained 6 pounds, grown 1 inch, and her shoe size is a 7 1/2 ! It is amazing. Her speech slurred for awhile, but is back on track. Her physical and fine motor are starting to get better as well. I can't believe she goes to school next year, time has really flown by. The meeting went great and now the exciting but scary stuff begins !
Thanks for asking !

i guess since Janna struggles with fine motor skills, i've thought of some things you may want to include in Lily's IEP if you haven't already;
proper holding of crayons/pencils
dressing (buttoning and zipping) or putting on socks/shoes/tying shoes?
stringing beads
(she may already be doing these things but thought i'd list any way)
glad that the meeting went so well - i'm sure Lily will do great in school and that they will all love having her there - she's such a sweetheart!
and HOORAY on the good heart news and gaining weight - way to GROW Lily!!!

I think our Candian IEP's might differ from yours.
Adam is in kindergarten, & his goals are quite simple. His language goals include using 2 & 3 word phrases, identifying all his alphabet letters, following 2 step directions and writing his name. He also has some math goals (identifying shapes, counting to10) and some behavior goals (expressing his frustration in words & signs, taking less time to transition between activities). I don't have his IEP in front of me, so these are all the goals I can remember.
I have been to alot of training sessions lately on how to write IEP's. Our IEP format has changed & we teachers need to learn how to make one properly. It is all very interesting.

Thanks Anjee and AJ. Lily will be going to regular kindergarten with 10 hours of resource a week. While she is in resource, she will work on fine motor ( handwriting mostly) and math skills like patterning and adding. We are fortunate that she knows her colors, letters, sounds, numbers,shapes, can dress self, and is potty trained. It was such a nerve racking experience and I am glad we have the summer to keep working on her skills. I also agree less is better when it comes to objectives. Thanks again for responding to my message ! Natalie
