My favorite part:

“I prayed to God that He would change Johnny, but He changed me,” Coach Stallings once said in a speech. He added that if God offered him the choice of going back and having a “perfect” son without a disability or having Johnny, “I’d take Johnny every time.”

That's my favorite part, too. I have to admit, I have felt the same way.

I finished his book the other day that he wrote years ago and Johnny was about 36 or 34 maybe. I laughed I cried I related so much to this family and this man. This book is a must read for all of us who have been so BLESSED to have had our children with Down Syndrome born today instead of the 60's or earlier. These parents and parents like them were pioneers. They are the reason our children have such a bright future today!

Back in those days our children had no value. They didn't even want to fix their hearts or put any kind of effort into their health.

If these parents had not been brave and gone against what everyone, doctors, friends, family, society in general told them they needed to do... no one would have ever found out that these children could learn and be productive and add to our families and to society.

I just have so much respect for people like the Stallings. I would love to meet these people. They and many others have been a blessing to us all.
