This makes my blood boil!! I just read an article on my Earthlink home page about a family, who want to obtain permanent citizenship in Australia, and have been denied because their 13 year old son has DS. The immigration dept. said that their son "did not meet the health requirement." They say it is not discrimination, because it isn't the disability that's the problem; it's a question of the cost implications to the community. Supposedly "... son's existing medical condition was likely to result in a significant and ongoing cost to the Australian community." Of course, the parents are appealing the decision and have support from multiple groups in Australia.
I don't know how to put links in here, so I'm going to type what is on the bottom of the page I printed out and maybe you can all read it first-hand.

The spaces that show are actually an underline symbol.
Now I need to go pound my fist on something. I just needed to share this with all of you!
