Yep he has turned 5, big boy now!
He is at full time mainstream for 2 days a week and Special School 3 days, where he gets speech and OT (he doesn't need physio anymore)
Having seen and read what most other 5yro are doing speech wise, I am getting quite down, Owen really has only a couple of spoken words, he has absoutely no sentences and very little sign. He is getting alot of SaLT now, almost 30 mins a day, but he still shows no inclination to even try to speak, it's almost that he doesn't want to communicate anything other than when he wants a drink. his strops are getting worse when he is directed to do something that he doesn't want to do.
I had hoped that he would transfer to full time mainstream school, but I just don't see that happening, he is so far behind, the school has major reservations in taking him.
I didn't mean this to be a pity party, I had just hoped to be somewhere else by this age

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.

It will come. Nicole really showed improvement in her second year of kindy(she was 7). She is now 8 and being a little stinker at school, not wanting to come in from recess, pushing in line, general not listening and following directions. I ask her if she did this stuff last year and she says yes, but now they bring home a journal everyday and I learn what happened alot more now with that. I wish they had done that through kindy!!!!
With Nicole and the speech i really pushed her to use her words. If she wanted something instead of pointing it out and getting it for her I would make her at least try to say the word before I would get it for her. Somedays that worked (even if it sounded nothing like the word, it was an effort) and somedays she would do without what she wanted cause she is stubborn!!!!
WELCOME to the CLUB!!!!
