Thanks a lot. We use this sort a thing all the time. Two websites you all might be interested in, if you don't know already are www.starfall.com (free) and www.onemorestory.com. The second one is not free--its about $45 a year but it has a whole library of childrens books that they can practice with, clicking on words they don't know so it will be read aloud, or having the story read aloud from beginning to end. This website has become our babysitter (JK) because it holds Anna's attention far more than any television show or movie.

Thank you so much for these sites. As a teacher in an elementary school I need sites that I can retrieve worksheets to help my students. I am having a hard time finding some that are called "cloze procedure." Most of the ones I have found are to high for them. Anyone out there have any suggestions? I use edhelper.com all the time. I have a membership, but it can be used some without the membership.

Another truly BRILLIANT site for teaching early reading skills is readingeggs.com. It does cost but you can have a free trial for a few weeks. It is bright, musical, animated and implements "best practice" for teaching reading. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I'll second that. After 4weeks on the site my son was reading, he doesn't have Ds, but I'm so impressed we will be using it for Aden. Actually Aden already sits and watches his brother play on it daily.

Matthew was only 4 years old when he started to read.

It’s now called ABC Reading Eggs, here is the link where you can sign up for 2 weeks free trial http://readingeggs.com/

And here is a link to my son reading at 4years just weeks after starting The books just arrived.
Matt reading at age 4yrs
His teacher was convinced he could only read from memory, until she tested him.

Just 3mths later reading, Green eggs and ham.
You can tell he isn’t reading from memory because he makes mistakes lol also most impressive is, he can read with expression (when he isn’t tired as in this video).

Matt age 5yrs, Green eggs and Ham

Nicola
which of your children are using reading eggs and how are they going?

Sienna turned 4 in January and uses reading eggs. Yesterday she read the book Lachie had brought home from school for reading. Lachie is an average year 2 student. The only problem Sienna has with "reading eggs" is that since it is fairly new and they are still writing lessons they can't pump out new lessons as fast as Sienna does them. For now she tries to read EVERYTHING she sees, and watches carefully when the other children read aloud so that she can work out new words.

yes that is the same problem Matthew has. he has moved on further than the program. They have just put another 10 lessons up, Matthew for the first time didn't have an interest at first but is back into it now.
Matthew is the same “reading everything he can” I just don't know how to progress him. He is so hungry for more. This is so strange for me, my eldest had a learning disability and our second child was average. I was hoping now that Matthew started school (Prep) this year, they would help out. This hasn’t been the case though.
I'm really not sure where to go, which books to buy...
