I think that this was a considered decision involving her parents, medical experts, and the court (it is certainly debatable whether or not all of those people should have an equal say in this matter, but their inclusion appears to be both helpful and reasoned). I think that these issues are highly personal and should be made on an individualized, focused basis.
I was just writing another parent, yesterday on this topic. We have begun talking about Emma's future reproductive realities in our home; rights and our responsibilities for a person who in all likelihood will not be capable of raising a child with any sort of responsibility. It is emotionally wrenching to consider the possibilities. I think we as a community need to be careful to respect each others' feelings and how immensly difficult this is when discussing it. Our children (as are we!) exist on a broad spectrum. Take care judging others based upon your experience.
I'm sure that this was not a pleasant or uplifting process for anyone involved.
That's what I think.
