Ian had his year check up today.
He is 18lbs 3oz & 29.5".
He was 19lbs 6oz & 28.5" at 9 months before he caught pneumonia. He's having such a hard time catching back up. He lost 1.5lbs in 7 weeks; he got down to 17lbs 12oz before Christmas.
Now with another ear infection & more respiratory issues I'm so afraid he's going to lose again.
They are labeling him an asthmatic because of the reoccurring wheezing.
I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 3 & was hospitalized often up until my teenage years.
But out of curiosity;
What were your LO's weight/height @ birth, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months & 12 months?
Also, what health issues do they have/when did those issues develop?

well, rachel was 10 weeks early so i'll go by her adjusted age...
adjusted birth - 18.5 inches, 5 pounds, 13 ounces
adjusted 3 months - 21 3/4 inches, 10 pounds, 14 ounces
adjusted 6 months - 24.5 inches, 14 pounds
adjusted 9 months - (no length) 16 pounds, 5 ounces
adjusted 1 year - she was around 28 inches and 17.5 pounds
she was STUCK at that weight and height for a long time. it wasn't until around 20 months adjusted that she had a growth spurt. she is now about 25 pounds and over 31 inches. she is almost ready to go into 24 months size clothes.
she was born with duodenal atresia and a small VSD. she's had her adenoids and tonsils removed and one tube put in an ear. she's had RSV and pneumonia and croup. but over all, for 2.5 years, she's been a very healthy baby.

Noah was down to 12 or 15lbs at 2 years old. He was diagnosed with failure to thrive, which I later found out was actually Celiac Disease.
He has reflux, celiac disease, hypothyroid, nystagmus (his eyes shake, he was born with it) and autism. Reflux he's always had, but I didn't know because he didn't show the typical signs. Celiac disease, he starved himself and we found out when he was about 2.5 years old. Hypothyroid was diagnosed about 3 months later, he's on his third set of tubes, he has a g-tube, he has a dysfunctional swallow, he's had his tonsils and adenoids removed for sleep apnea, and of course the autism which was diagnosed a year ago as of May.
I think that about covers it.

Kyle barely grew his first 9 months... He wore size 0-3 month size clothes until he was 9 months old! At 7 months he was diagnosed with congested heart failure and had OHS but he still failed to gain weight. He was then diagnosed with failure to thrive and reflux. He finally started gaining weight at a good rate at 9 months.
Birth: 7 lbs 3 oz, 19.5 inches
2 months: 9 lbs 9 oz
4 months: 10 lbs 4 oz, 24 inches
6 months: 11 lbs 5 oz, 25 inches
7 months (CHF): 11 lbs even
8 months (after OHS): 11 lbs 1 oz, 25 inches
9 months: 12 lbs 11 oz, 25 inches
12 months: 16 lbs 13 oz, 27.5 inches

Has Kyle been tested for Celiac Disease? That is what caused Noah's failure to thrive. Well, that and significant feeding issues.

Yeah, I actually made them test two different times for it, we never found out why he was FTT, he eventually got over that hump himself and at 2 1/2 he's 26lbs and 35inches long, decently on the typical charts (for a while there he was in the negative percentile on the down syndrome charts!)

Piper was also a preemie (32 weeks), so, adjusted she was:
Birth/2 months- 5 lbs 3 oz
3 months/5 months- 7 lbs 4oz
6 months/8 months- 10 pounds
9 months/11 months- 11 pounds 13-ish oz
She followed a curve fairly well (albeit a pretty LOW curve, lol), but they always reminded me that kids with Ds don't tend to STAY on their curve as well as their typical peers. There seem to be more peaks and plateaus, which may or may not be attributed to the additional health issues that they have to deal with. In Piper's case, she just had a supremely high caloric need which is just now, at two and a half, starting to come down. She had duodenal atresia, her gallbladder removed at 8 months, and then at 15 months we found that her airway was 75-80% closed due to intubation trauma at some point. They thought that once she got the airway reopened, she'd gain weight a little better. I don't think it made a whole lot of difference, but she sits at the 10% instead of 5% these days...
Your little one's plateau could be a combination of lots of things- if he's starting to rely more on solids and less on milk, the health issues, or just because it's what his body wants to do right now. We had a list of "wam-bam" food that we used when she was coming off of an illness or just not gaining to keep up. Egg yolks, avocado, coconut milk were some of them. I always recommend talking to a nutritionist to ensure that the intake is lining up with the need. We saw one both through our pediatrician's office and through Early Intervention. You can always ask if there's one available to you!
Good luck- weight gain can be incredibly stressful on the mama. Hope that he perks up soon!

Melly was also diagnosed as FTT when she was around 18 months old. When she was 21 months old she was only 16, lbs 15 oz. ( Almost 17 pounds. ) Once her tonsils and adenoids were removed she finally started to gain weight.
Many children with DS don't gain rapidly in the early years. If they are diagnosed FFT, there is usually an underlying cause, as you have read with the other children.
(My typical daughter was only 18 pounds at a year. )
Just keep an eye on his weight. His asthma may make it a little more difficult to gain, only because he may tire out more easily. ( Melissa had a very difficult time breathing and tired out quickly because of her enlarged Tonsils and Adenoids. She also gagged, a Lot, and would often throw up what she just ate. Not a good time. ) Ask your doctor about what you can use to supplement his calories if he becomes concerned about his weight, but I wouldn't worry yet.
