The swallow study indicated some aspiration of thin liquids. Not with every swallow.
He was penetrating with nectar consistency but was fine with honey consistency.
We'll have a follow up study in 4 months.
At first they wanted us to thicken his milk with rice cereal. That made him sick, vomiting & diarrhea.
Now we are using Thick-It & he still has diarrhea. I've been giving him Pedialyte everyday. For a couple days that's all he was getting.
I've slowly introduced milk + toast/bananas back into his diet. Still diarrhea.
Still giving him a few bottles of pedialyte a day.
I don't know what to do.
We are still treating him for asthma per his pediatrician. Two nebulizer treatments a day of pulmicort.
Could the diarrhea be from the Thick-It?
Or maybe from the thickener + antibiotic + teething?

You could try Simply Thick instead. It's a thickener similar to ThickIt. HOWEVER, you CANNOT USE IT for a premie as it has caused some serious problems.

Ian is 13 months old. I'll look into the Simply Thick.
I just wish I knew why he is still having diarrhea.

I was told by a friend that insurance could cover the thickener?
The speech therapist we saw said nothing about it, nor did our pediatrician.
We are moving to Montana on Tuesday & will see his new pediatrician mid-April.
It is so expensive. I will be questioning Ian's new pedi.
Would she just need to write a prescription?

All I had to read was antibiotic to say that is the source of the diarrea. You could be giving too high of a dose. That being said Ragan was allegric to simply thick and thick-it made he spit up to the point of vomiting. We just thinkened with infant cereal and slowly progressed he to more grown up food. It was a lot of work teaching him to drink from a glass that young but that is what we did and fed him everything by spoon. He came out just fine.

He was prescribed to augmentin 3mL 2x daily.
He was on TWO rounds of it, back to back.
That poor little belly.
Now with the tubes hopefully we won't need anymore oral antibiotics for stupid ear infections.

You have to talk to your insurance company to find out if it's covered. If it is, likely all you need is a prescription for it.
It's not always anti-biotics that cause diarhea. Noah hasn't taken many in his life, I can probably count on one hand how many times he's been prescribed an antibiotic....and he's almost 5.
However, I have lost count for the number of times he's had diarhea. Now that his celiac is controlled, we don't really have issues with diarhea. Until the diarhea clears up, I would keep him off dairy because that will only make it worse, and then re-introduce it once his tummy has recovered.
The amount of Simply Thick that Noah had to use was just gross, he requires pudding thick, and so whatever you put the stuff in, just ended up smelling like it and eventually he just refused to eat anything that even looked remotely like it might have it in there. I can't say I blame him, it was nasty.
I would try it anyway, give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes. Noah's poop was jellyish when he was on it, because it literally just went through him as it is.
I ended up cutting it out completely, and mixing his pediasure with rice cereal, and that was his only source of liquid until his g-tube was put in. I use Milupa rice cereal, it's gluten free and the texture is nice, and it actually tastes good. I'm not sure what it would be called in the US.

Agmentin is the worst antibiotic for diarrhea. Not knowing the weight of your child I can,t help with the dose but if you let me know I will ask my husband, he is a pharmacist. I know for ragan we had to go to the low end otherwise it was pretty explosive. TMI. Do get a prescription for the thick it if or other thickener if that is what you use. If nothing else it can be applied to your deductible if they don't cover the cost. But my preference is to try to go a more natural route by thickening with other foods. You can even use instant potatoes. Good luck.
