Maybe some of you have seen this in your kids. I have been concerned about this "eye thing" Charlie does, but of course could not get him to do it in front of the Opthomologist a couple weeks back. Well, I caught it on camera last week! This happens EVERY time he looks up. At first I thought his left eye muscles might be loose, but lately I think it is more like the right eye muscles are tight and can't look up as far as the left (this is my very uneducated guess). Anyway, what do you make of this? Should I take this photo into the Eye Doctor soon, or is this not a big deal?

Yes, I would take a print of the photograph with you. Do you see a pediatric ophthalmologist? My son is 3 1/2 and he goes to one at a children's hospital that's not too far away. Logan would also cross his eyes every time he looked up. They tried patching the good eye for a few hours each day to strengthen the other, but that didn't work. He ended up having eye muscle surgery. The Dr. explained that if we didn't have the surgery then Logan would eventually lose sight in the bad eye because his eyes weren't working together and over time his brain would quit using the bad eye. The surgery helped a lot, but we still had to have glasses because he is farsighted.
It could be that Charlie doesn't have a serious problem, but I think that the doctor would like to see the pictures. They also need to know that this happens every time Charlie looks up.
Good luck . . . and keep us posted!

Great idea to take the photo to the eye doctor! I would say definitely take him to a pediatric opthalmologist. John had something called hypertropia, which just means that one eye was aimed higher than the other. He had surgery for it about a year and a half ago and his eyes are doing great now. The doctor could tell something was wrong because John always tilted his head to one side to compensate. During eye exams when they tried to tilt his head the other way, John always got really mad. I thought the head tilt was cute but it went away after surgery.

ABSOLUTELY take the pictures to your eye doctor. It looks to me like the examples I see online of the 4th nerve palsy. This is what my little guy has but it has taken 4 years for the doctor to barely see it at his exam. We see weird eye movements all the time but can't replicate them at the doc. The last time we were there, I held Jake's head in several positions and he finally saw it. Now we are waiting for it to get worse so we can have surgery. Also, show your doc the pics but recreate them for him in the office. It appears your little one is on their belly and looking up when it shows up. Lay him on the floor at the doc and let him see.
