First I need to say Laura has been sick so please pray that she gets better so she joined the IEP via phone yesterday. ciarrasmom let me tell you thank you for getting me in touch with her. For the first time I did not feel alone and let me tell you she is wonderful!

We did not get what we wanted at all so we will be doing the next step but she does not give up and let them have it. They can not admit that they just can not give Samantha what ahe wants. At one point in the meeting the superintendent of schools referred to Samantha as an IT. Can you believe that, but Laura was right there and stand back, she told them that maybe that was their problem they saw Samantha as an it and not a child and that SHE was the most imprtant thing here. It will be a battle but Laura said she is in this with me so I feel pretty good about it. Now I will stay at school with her today because of her new aide (a whole other story) to see what happenes and I will let you know!

holy cow...he actually referred to Samantha as an IT....is this an elected postition in California....or your county??? Holy cow. I think I'd be writing an editorial on that one. How about contacting a reporter and asking them if they'd like to know how the superintendent feels about disabled children in his district. woe.

You're gonna PM me with that person's name, right? You're not talking about the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cohn, are you? Why would he be at your IEP? I'd really like to know who that is, cause I've got some fresh potatoes for his tailpipe. He'll understand the difference between "it" and shinola, if you gets my drift.
No really. Tell me. It'll be our little secret.

WOW WOW WOW!!! SO GLAD LAURA WAS WITH YOU!!!!

Man, this just totally SUCKS for you to fight for what is rightfully your daughter's!!! This is what gives IEP's such a bad taste and makes everyone feel it's ALWAYS a fight. It should NOT have to be like this! Man, it chaps my hide... if I still lived in So Cal I think I'd be bringing some potatoes and joining EMDAD! LOL

Good luck!!! Hang in there!!!!! And keep us posted!

A.

We just went to my son's first IEP meeting. He has Autism so I'm sure it's different but I brought pictures of James and made sure everyone looked at them. I think it's important for them to see him and refer to him by name I think maybe IT came out because they are trying to seperate themself from her.

Good Luck.

We took Anna with us to her EI transition meeting. At one point someone made a comment that she had a short attention span--this was after she had been sitting quietly reading a stack of books for 45 minutes. We pointed out to them that she had a fine attention span for things she was interested in--and they conceded that the report that said she had the short attention span wasn't terribly accurate.
