The Government also said problems such as cleft palates could point to more serious disabilities that could not be detected until birth.

Even a clear test could hide "more serious disabilities that could not be detected until birth." Perhaps the government would like all pregnancies to end in abortion.

There was a huge debate last year when when someone complained about a woman having a late abortion ( after 6mths ) just because her child had cleft palate, I was horrified.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2367917.stm

Here in the UK if the child is considered to have a serious disablity ( of which DS is considered serious ) then you can apparently have an abortion right up to labour. Isn't it shocking Shocked Shocked

Whhhaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know your serous, but are you talking about the olden days? or now in the years 2007?????

You know I remember going to a Cleft Pals conference and hearing about baby痴 (with clefts) being left to die in third world countries. There is no real difference I知 not sure why I知 so shocked I think I forget because I知 not attending these things anymore and am on the outer.

unfortunately this is today's world here in the UK Sad Sad Sad

its so sad isn't it that abortion is considered for a disability such as DS or cleft palate so late into a pregnancy

and in third world countries I have had missionary friends who have visited orphanages where babies with a disability are just put in a cot and left to die. Its heartbreaking isn't it Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
