HI!!!! My husband Ed and I live in Buffalo, NY and are the proud parents of 4 beautiful girls Christina, 13 JUlia,12 Anna,7 and Maria (DS and West Syndome) 16 months. The last year has been quite a challenge (as you know) but things are looking great for 2010. Our biggest issue right now is that Maria can not chew and swallow food. She chews a little but does not swallow solids. We are sill on Stage 3!! UGhh! But, she i sno longer seizing, so I can't complain too much. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and I look forward to getting to know you -what a wonderful place this seems to be -lots of great ideas and support.

Maria, 10/1/2008, has DS and West Syndrome. As you can see she was born on the first day of DS awareness month in the US. She is the angel that has blessed our family. She has 3 sisters who have only benefited from Maria's wonderful addition to our family.

I found from aged 12 months to 20 months very difficult and for the past 6 months we are seeing great strides in Declan#s development.

Welcome to DownSyn. Austin is almost 17 months and is still eating stage 3 food also. He also has a hard time chewing. For the most part he just mashes his food. He is getting better. All of his food if we give him what we are eat, it has to be soft. They will get it. Hang in there..Glad to hear she isn't seizing any more. Anyway, again WELCOME to the forum.

Welcome to downsyn!! I can understand the issues around food. It took a long time for Talitha to eat. But she has gotten there eventually and so will Maria Very Happy

It is so much easier when they can eat 'normal' food.

My son also has difficulty with chewing and swallowing. He didn't start eating table foods until about 18 - 20 months with the consultation of a feeding specialist. He still has limitations, but has improved a lot over the past year. They will get there eventually- it just takes time and lots of practice, I guess! Good luck! I look forward to hearing more about Maria and your family!

Hi neighbour! My family lives across the border from you in Niagara Falls, Ont.. We get over to Buffalo quite often (my 19 year old likes shopping at the Galleria), and we are hoping to do some events with your Buffalo DS association in the future, so maybe we will meet up some day.

My son, Adam, is almost 8 years old, & is an amazing little boy. We have learned so much from him, as I am sure you will with your beautiful Maria.

Welcome!! I'm Maggie, Mama to 3.5 yo Emlyn. I'm actually from Buffalo (well Grand Island) but we live down in Atlanta. I miss the food LOL. Someday your sweet Maria will learn how wonderful it is Smile
