Hi, during ultrasound there are many markers or features that can be indications of Down syndrome. One of these markers is the nuchal fold. Most babies with Down syndrome have this marker, which is a significant fatty pad on the back of the neck, more so than a baby without Down syndrome. Although my son was born with Down syndrome, this feature was never observed on ultrasound, nor was any other marker whatsoever, and when he was born the nuchal fold was minimal. Hope this helps.
