Hi all, I will try to make this short but you know how long winded I can be!!
Today, I spoke with the psychiatrist on the phone about Allison's Adderall and - long story short - he wants to try adding Straterra to it. He said he would leave some samples for me at the front desk of his office and that I could come get them along with a script for a refill of the Adderall. I take Ally to school around 11:45 so I dropped her off and ran to get gas and then to the grocery store to get a green pepper, then to his office. We live about a half hour away from his office. Anyway, I get there and I go in with my 7-month-old, who now has the nasty cold his sister has, and the main door is open but the window has the little shade pulled down. I didn't see it right away, but there was a small sign on the window that said "closed for lunch from 12 to 1". I stood there for a few moments and I could hear movement behind the shade so I lightly taped on the window and very politely told the woman what I was there for and that I had spoke to the Dr. this morning and he wanted me to come get the samples. She asked for my daughter's name and then says "you should remember that they are at lunch from 12 to 1"!! Then she takes two steps to the left and gets me the bag and hands it to me and says "there you go". I said thanks and left. It took her less than 10 seconds to do this!! I was pissed to say the least. I didn't say anything bedause I was stunned by her rudeness. But am I wrong to be mad? I know they were closed for lunch, but I didn't know that they closed for lunch until I got there. I have only been there for appointment times and have never called during lunch. 'The doctor didn't say that the office would be closed during lunch either. I just thought it would have been completely idiotic for me to sit there with a sick baby for a half-hour (it was about 12:30 at the time) to do something that it took this woman less than 10 seconds to do. I wanted to call her back and tell her how rude she was but I probably would've tripped over my tongue and she wouldn't have cared anyway. I kind of want to write a letter to the doctor letting him know how rude a direct representative of his office was. I used to work as a medical assistant and I got called down from the lunch room many times to get things for patients. I would have never thought of letting them know how they inconvenienced me! Am I in the wrong? Should I just let it go? We will have appointments with him in the future. We actually have one coming up Nov. 6. So I don't want his staff to be total A-holes to us. What do you think?
Sorry so long winded. See, I told ya!

If that is as bad as it gets, be thankful. Yes, she was rude, but you will have to deal with them. I learned that the people making the appointments are your friends. If you are nice to them you get worked in easier. If they don't like you - good luck. I would vent and get over it. IMHO

I would be mad. I really dislike rude people. I have to agree with Kayla....when you need an appointment, the last person you want to dislike you is the person making the appointment. But unfortunately I also feel that rudness should not be tolerated....so I am really on the fence on what you should do.
You had no way of knowing about lunch....and I agree, I have also worked through many lunches and would have never let a client know they inconvenienced me. If I had, I probably would have lost my job. The office staff should realize they have a job because of the patients...but few realize that. My doctors office has quite a few rude people, but my doctor is so fantastic, I don't let it bother me. Usually people with a big chip on their shoulder self destruct in a matter of time anyway. If a person is so rude and inconsiderate to be bothered by handing a bag to someone....then chances are they aren't going to have that job very long.

NO DON"T DO IT!!!!
I want you to get hold of Dr. Kapone's office, and have your doctor discuss this with HIM! Dr. Kapone will tell him how and why straterra (and Adderall too) are NOT drugs of choice for kids with DS! Over the summer Angela was on Adderal, in combination with Prozac, and it was HORRIBLE! We found out from Dr. Kapone after the fact, that it was a very dangerous combination.
Stimulants like Adderall and Straterra should not be used for kids with DS. Guanfacine works much better, as does risperdal (which we call Angela's love pills. LOL)
But, every kid is different. Have your doctor get in touch with Dr. Kapone. I have his contact information somewhere....if I can find it I'll PM it to you.

I would have been pissed too but I agree that it is probably better to vent to us and put up with it than to say anything. People like that tend to be officious and legalistic and don't take criticism well. She is likely to treat you badly if you complain and it is probably not worth the ongoing hassle.

I would casually mention to the doctor that you got a little attitude for picking up the samples and rx at 12:30 because you didn't know the office was closed. A lot of times they don't know how their staff treats patients and families but do care.
