I was 38 when Henry was born!
Ibby, you're not old! You look better than I; that's for sure! Having a large family has been great for you. They are such a great looking bunch of kids. Congratulations on your little bundle of joy who is on the way! I will be awaiting more news along the way!!!

When should they start talking?? Stetson says Mama - Dada - Na Na, but thats it. You can tell he wants to talk, but instead its just yelling. Waiting for a ST to come to my house. Been waiting for a while now. Guess there is a shortage.
He yells ALOT!!! What can I do to try to get him to stop that??
Thanks

Okay, I am so late in getting in on this, but here we go...I was 38 when I conceived MaryEllen, and had just turned 39 two weeks before she was born.

ok.. I was 30 when I conceived and 31 when my good looking girl was born.. At first I was kind of confuse since no one in my family or my husband's family except for twice remove cousin that has DS. I have an aunt that turn 42 when she had her third child and guess what she was born "normal". So I guess like someone else said it, age is not a factor is what is meant, that's all.

I was 38 but this is what they say. The majority of children born with Ds are women younger than 35 is because the majority of women having babies are younger than 35.
If you have 100 babies born to mommies under 25 and 100 mommies are over 35. The majority of the mom's over 35 would have the most children born with Ds. So if you level the playing field so to speak there are more in the older group.

I was curious about this too..... but I didn't want to ask the question, so I am happy this sticky is here.
I conceived Owen one week before my 35th birthday.

I'm new to the forum so I'm just getting in on this thread...
I've had 2 children since I've turned 40. Micah was born the month after and is typically developing; I was 42 when Reuben(ds) was conceived and 43 when he was born.

I was 31 when Luke was conceived and 32 when he was born. We tried for only 2 months with our first but 8 months before I was pregnant with Luke. I just can't help but think how each month that passed by without a pregnancy, was because the world was waiting for and expecting Luke.

I was 30. What I was told is that more ds babies ARE born to younger mothers because more conceptions occur at younger ages, but that a higher percentage of babies with older mothers have ds.
For example:
1 in 600 35 year old mothers has a ds baby.
1 in 900 30 year old mothers has a ds baby.
But since more women conceive at 30 than at 35, there are actually 2 children with ds born to 30 year old mothers for every 1 born to 35 year old mothers.

I conceived Joel at 29 and I was 30 when he was born. The interesting thing is that I took the Quad Screen (not sure why... it didn't matter what the outcome) and our results came back 1 in 107 chance with DS. However, there were no visible markers on 2 Level II ultrasounds and we weren't interested in an Amniocentesis. I must have had 20 or more ultrasounds because I am high-risk and not a sign of the DS other than the elevated Quad Screen.
