Wellll.....guess I"m the grandma. I was 41 when he was conceived and he was born 18 days after my 42cnd birthday. We have run this type of thread before.... the under 35's way outnumber the over 35's. THey say it's because more woman under 35 are having children and therefore because of sheer numbers...more children with Down Syndrome.

Geez - did you have to call us grandmas??? I'm the same age as you - was 41 at conception and 42 when Jacey was born.

I always figure people look at us and think Avery has ds because I was 38 when she was born, but we adopted her and her birth mom was actually 19.

I was 38 when I conceived my daughter. I had given up all hope of ever conceiving a child. I have (or had, they never said it would go away) Polycystic ovaries. When I was married I took Clomid and timed my cycle and the whole bit-nothin! I was in my mid-twenties then. She was a very huge surprise, that is for sure. When I had my first ultrasound, I asked them if they could see cycts and they didnt see any. I had them my whole life up until around the age of 36 when I started getting regular periods for the first time in my life.
I was pushing 40, I was overweight and I got pregnant.

It was my only normal pregnancy as well - we had a miscarriage first, I had toxemia and diabetes with the next (Robbie) and the next was twins(Reuben and Richard) and diabetes. With Ray I had no issues - my feet didn't even swell up until the last week! I was amazed to be doing the grocery shopping the week before his C-section, as I was on bed-rest with all the rest. (They were all C-section) I did have the triple screen test done, but only because I forgot to have it removed from the bloodwork order, so DS was in the back of my mind as a possibility. I still think the triple screen tests are a tool of the devil to convince unknowing moms to abort these precious children. We've counselled several expecting parents who were given that option based on this inconclusive test based purely on probability, and their children did not end up having any genetic issues. What a tragedy for those who err on the side of fear. If I were the confrontational advocate type I'd be picketing OB offices about it!

With me, my second daughter who has DS was such a text book prenancy. She kicked heaps, hicups mornign sickness etc and was a whopping 9pound 56cm long.
I truley thought I was having a boy this time because apart from the pregnancy itself I was carrying total different.
My first daughter didn't move much during the whole pregnancy. If I thought there was going to be anything wrong with either, it would have been my first and she is the one who does not have DS.

I also have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). I went on the South Beach diet and lost about 30lbs and also regulated my sugar levels which allowed me to get pregnant with our little Callie without meds. I was so happy because I was worried I wouldn't be able to get pregnant again. Interestly, I got pregnant with my first while on BC. Crazy.
Oh, and to answer the question: I was 28 when Callie was conceived and born. Hubby was 33. Neither of us have DS (or any other syndrome) in our family.
