Has anyone heard of Mannatech? We are trying this supplement called Ambrotose, produced by Mannatech, which some people have said helps with neural development. I was given a book which shows a girl with DS who started taking Ambrotose and who is doing really well in her age appropriate class in high school. She has even lost some of the more obvious features of DS so you would never pick that she has it.
We have started Talitha on Ambrotose because it is just vegetable extracts. We have checked it out thoroughly and it can't do any harm and may do her some good. If anyone else has heard of this working I would like to know.

I've seen a few websites that were posted on this board, but don't remember if this was the drug that was mentioned. The websites show children with Ds before and after, and I really could see no difference. Personally I would not want to change one tiny cell on Noah's face because I love it the way it is. If it helps with learning and cognative skills, I guess it's worth it, but we still wouldn't do it. You'd have to wonder where the same child would be without taking the drug, whether they still had the ability alone to accomplish the same things. I often wonder where Noah would be without all the PT, OT and ST that he received as a baby. Sometimes I felt like they were doing NOTHING with him, but you have to go down every avenue to help your child, wouldn't want to look back and think WHAT IF HE HAD HAD THERAPY. But I still wonder if he'd be at the exact place he is now without it.

Check with Renee Lacey's Mom. I am pretty sure that is what she uses.

Yes, I think this is worth buying. Courtney's mom uses it and recommended it to me. She has given me alot of helpful information and I trust her advice (and Courtney is doing well and also is beautiful!). I'm ordering it through the website tomorrow. She told me that Lacey's mom uses it too and little Lacey looks like she's doing well to me too (and is also absolutely adorable!).
I've also been giving Kenneth the Nordic Naturals Berry Keen fish oil (strawberry flavor). I think our generation of kids will have a great advantage with these products as well as good nutrition. I've been doing alot of reading on foods made with Omega 3 and foods containing anti-oxidants. Once Kenneth starts cereal I plan on mixing ground flaxseeds into it. All of this can only help our kids.

I haven't tried it yet, but want to. My sis in law takes it for her MS. And my parents take it "just because". I really can't afford it, so I called them about their sponsorship program. HA! I have to find my own sponsors. So it's not something we're able to do right now.

Right now I am just using the Glyco Bears but am planning on starting Ashlyn and myself on the Ambrotose ASAP!! I am not using it to change her appearance...I happen to love the way she looks right now! I am using it for health benefits. I was given info on it by a friend who swears by it for health reasons and has also helped her anxiety. She has a son who has ADHD and he is doing wonderful on their products.
Oh and we also take fish oil every day. I can honestly tell you that I have seen a HUGE difference in my memory and concentration since being on it. I have been taking it for about a year now, but Ashlyn has only been on it for about 4-6 months. I alternate the fish oil (nordic naturals is a good brand) and cod liver oil and I also give her vitamin E. I slip some extra zinc in her a couple of times a week too. Poor thing doesn't know what regular yogurt tastes like, LOL

Ambrotose rocks.
My brother Creighton has DS and has been taking the supplement for 1 1/2 years. He is doing better than ever mentally and physically. Our family loves the stuff, and trust the company.
It's rare to find natural AND non-toxic supplements. Take the plunge and give it a shot.
Blessings,

We phoned the company and were told that they don't have anything that is safe for children under the age of three. We want to get it for Eden but have to wait I guess. Those who use this, are your children over age three?

Lucille....
yes Courtney is over 3 but Lacey is not...she is only 2 and has been taking it since she was an infant.
It is not a "drug" it is a vitamin/mineral supplement (all natural from veggies/fruits)
Courtney's immune system has been boosted by it and she is much more alert.
