Hi everyone!!!

My name is Kim and my niece, Eva, was recently diagnosed. She is just about 3 weeks old. I also have a 23 year old sister with DS as well. It seems like this is a wonderful forum and I hope to learn a lot.

Hi Kim. Welcome to this site. You must have already had some experience with your sister, and now a new perspective with your niece. How is Eva doing? We'd love to see pictures here if you get the chance.

My Lovey Lu

My DH with Lovey Lu

She is doing pretty well although not gaining as much weight as the doctors would like. She has another appointment tomorrow. She also has a small hole in her heart but the doctor is optimistic that it will heal itself. She is absolutely the love of our lives. I was honored last night when they asked DH and I to be her Godparents. I am very familiar with Down syndrome but I have to say that I feel like I am back at square one. I was only 8 when my sister was diagnosed and although I do remember going with her to her PT and other appointments, I'm really embarrassed to say that I feel like I don't know enough.

I've contacted the ARC (we were very active when my sister was younger) to get info about family support groups. I'm also a massage therapist and hope to work on her regularly to improve her muscle tone.

So, that's me in a nutshell. Thanks to everyone here... this forum seems to be such a resource of wonderful information!!!

I'm a doting auntie too, brought here by my nephew Chase...who is my favorite person in the world. This place has been a wonderful resource for me and 2 years later I'm still addicted.

tina does look like a sweetheart and she looks like she knows how to have fun!! i would love to hear more about her too!! i have a cousin who has DS and is 42. so when mayson was born i knew some things but was still clueless to many other things as well!!

Kim and Eva welcome! It is great to have a new aunt/sibling member on Down syn. I'm Jen mom to Brock who 11 months. Since having Brock I've made many friends with Ds who are older 20's and 30's who have really inspired me and taught me that people live very full lives with Ds. I have an aunt who was born with brain damage and she has always been a very big part of my family.
