Hi
I just wanted to say `hello` and give a little introduction to my family. My name is Andrew and I've been married for 5 years to a Japanese lady - we live in Leicestershire which is in the heart of England. Our first child - Emma Ayana Georgia - was born on May 15th 2006 and within a couple of days the doctors were concerned that she may be a DS baby. They took a blood test and two days later we were told that the extra chromosome was present. Those 2 days were very stressful and we had a few tears at the news. We've just had the full test results and DS has been confirmed. Fortunately our families have been fantastic and at the moment we are enjoying all the joys that a newborn baby brings - including exhaustion!! I'll post a photo soon and I'm sure I'll be asking a few questions in the weeks and months ahead!! Looking forward to getting to know you!!

Welcome Andy, mom and Emma! I'm Jen mom to Brock who is 10 months. We live in middle US - Iowa. Brock's Ds diagnosis also came after his arrival and was tough news to hear, but he's doing great and we've learned that Ds is just a part of who he is. I look forward to seeing your photos. Get some rest!

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl!!! I highly reccomend that you read a poem called Welcome to Holland ~ it is a beautiful poem and a great way to begin the journey with your new family. It doesn't happen very often at all so don't be concerned, but I have two children with Down syndrome ~ they have each given my life a little bit of heaven here on earth and each have given my life the greatest joy I could have even known. You will be blessed beyond anything you could imagine and she will teach you things that you never thought possible. I would cherish this time that you have and remember first and formost she is your little girl and a child first, who happens to have Down syndrom! God Bless and hope to see that picture soon ~ jennifer

Hi Andy and welcome also to the board to your new family. We are not far from you either and have a little girl Imogen who will be 3 at the beginning of July. Look forward to hearing more about your little girl and seeing some pictures too. Are you in touch with any local support groups yet? Which part of Leicestershire are you in? I know some families in Nuneaton also which is not far away..
Welcome again
Sarah

Welcome to Downsyn. Can't wait to see pics of your beautiful little girl. The DS diagnosis comes as a bit of a shock but is not the disaster that some doctors make it out to be. My little Talitha is nearly 7 months old now and is a huge blessing to our family and a lot of people around us.
No matter what questions you have there will be people here who can help, and no matter what issues you face, there are others here who have come through similar things. Keep in touch. We are keen to hear more about Emma.

Hi Andy... from Andy. Congratulations !!!!!
I live in Nottingham , but work in Leicester (at least for some of the week!!)
I manage the Nuffield hospital on Scraptoft Lane in Leicester. If you're ever likely to be near the Starbucks at Borders, Fosse Park, send me a pm as I'd love to meet up with another new dad in the area. And that would give me plenty of excuses for a good coffee !!!
We've just had a baby (Jamie) with DS too,and recently spent 10 days at Glenfield waiting for a potential heart op (It never happened !!! - see the prayer request board for details)
Hope to catch up with you soon.
Pm me and I'll give you mobile number etc.
