Hi all.
I first came here around xmas 2004.
My partner had our second daughter and when she was born (we didnt have tests), she was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome.
At the time my life fell to pieces and had all the thoughts that every other parent affected by this had.
Im only 33 and my partner is 27 btw.......all the more suprising.

Well........i think its update time.

My daughter, Kimberely, is now 18 months old and my life has never been better. I also have a daughter thats 7 and they IDOLISE each other.

I have to admit, we were lucky that Kimberely had nothing wrong with her heart or another problems but the blow was still very severe at the time.

Really i just want to say a few things about it.

1). Its a devastating thing to hear when someone tells you...BUT...life does go on and normality soon comes back.

2). I watch her EVERYDAY learning new things and being a little girl as little girls should.

3) She has just stood up for the first time and i thought i would burst with pride.

4). She says dadda. WHAT a feeling!

5). Shes into EVERYTHING ..... great!

Lastly....Thankyou so much for this forum.
Like i said, i havent been here for a year but i thought it was time to say a BIG thankyou for making things just that bit easier. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH!

If anyone here needs a little support or a friendly ear then please just PM me. Lifes tough but feeling isolated is sooo much tougher!!

I also though you might like to say 'hello' my little angel.

Isn't it amazing how total devastation turns into complete bliss, joy and WONDERFUL. It's like God's telling us "if you can JUST hold on, make it through and don't give up on Me I promise that things will turn out perfectly". And it does. At first people can tell you till they are blue in the face that things will be okay and you just don't believe them. You have to live it for yourself. Your daughter is beautiful and such a blessing.

Welcome back and thanks for the update. WTG Kimberely on standing, those milestones are all the sweeter because you know how much hard work has gone into getting there.

Hope you'll stick around this time and post a bit more.

Welcome back. Kimberelys beautiful and it looks like she's doing soooo well.
Where in Uk are you?
We should all join the frapp map so we have an idea where in the UK everyone is so we can arrange a Downsyn meet up sometime in the near future.

What a doll!! She is just beautiful! My daughter just turned 17 months. I agree with what you said about life eventually becoming normal again. It's overwhelming at first and then you realize "hey, I can do this." Looking forward to hearing more about your little angel; sounds like she is doing great! WTG Kimberly!

Great to see you back. Kimberley looks, and sounds like she's doing fantastically. And she's adorable. So glad you've reached this point of acceptance, love and enjoyment of your little girl.

Oh my goodness, she is absolutely adorable. I wish I could swoop her up in cyber space and hug her. Welcome back. I did the same thing, came in, watched for a while. Then I found myself enjoying the company so much, I have not left. Can't wait to hear more about your bundle of joy.

Hi all.
Thanks for all the kind words.

I'm not a God fearing fella and although i wanted you all to see Kimberely i didnt do it to show her off (although thats nice aswell).

I remember i googled and came here the night she was born.
Just that one night bought a little peace to the most turbulent day of my life and i will NEVER forget the kind words and understanding i received from people who KNEW what my world was like.

I came here to show my appreciation for that and to hopefully let others read my story who were as low as me. With any luck, they may then find what i did.

Im still not totally at peace with myself, i doubt i ever will be, but speaking to people like you guys and gals and just having a listening ear makes the world of difference.

I doubt if i will post often but i will just post milestones and pictures to help others like me.

I cant thankyou all enough. You have no idea how much you helped back then.

What a great update - and you are obviously so in love! You are right the diagnosis news is so tough - but life is so much more than that diagnosis.

Sounds like you have a wonderful daughter Kimberly!
Thanks for the update.

You are so right in what you said. It takes time to get the 'rythm' back into your life after a DS diagnosis, even when there are no medical complications.

Well done girl!

Looking forward to hearing more about your precious daughter.

Thanks for your post! Your daughter is beautiful! I am new here, my son, Owen is just 3 weeks old. It is sometimes hard for me to believe that it gets easier. I find that I often forget about the ds, and then it hits me like a ton of bricks. This site has been wonderful to me, and has helped so much, in such little time. I look forward to hearing Kimberly's milestones and seeing more pictures!

Hello and welcome back to the site. I know how you felt and know how you feel. I think it is not so much a problem with our children per se that is difficult to deal with - it is what DS means to us each individually which is derived from so many sources - preconceptions, snatched glimpes of people, media stories and so on. What helps me most of all is a combination of time - it gets even better as they get older, Immy is now 3 - and also seeing beyond the syndrome and looking at the child, the person.

It would be lovely to hear more about your little girl so I hope you post again and that you have a good look at the others on this site - there are some really inspirational people and children here.

Sarah

PS Which part of the UK are you from

What a lovely part of the world to live in - we have some friends who live in Llantwit Major and there are some Welsh members on another email list that I belong to - DSUK (it's very good). They have a little boy called Morgan who is around 1.

I am a quarter Welsh myself and a Devonian by birth but have ended up living in the Midlands

How did you end up in Wales?
