Can anyone tell me at what age their children potty trained. Daniel is now 6 and showing no signs. He will sit on the potty for ages and pee but a #2 is a different story. This morning I kept him on the potty for 40 minutes and it is the first time in ages that he actually did a #2. Exactly 15 minutes later (after he had a diaper on) I could "smell" he had gone in his diaper again. I am absolutely at my wits end and he knows the difference between yes and no so if you ask him "do you want to poo" he will say no and 5 minutes later, he would have done his thing in his diaper. Any advice, suggestions would be welcome as I am not sure if this is being naughty or a DS thing (he is also autistic). Please help!!

Hannah was five before she was fully trained and we just got her night trained recently(she's seven) I don't have too much advice. I think for Hannah it was consistancy especially at school-she wants to be like the other kids. I know a couple people with a dual diagnosis and those kids are not potty trained either so you are not alone! Also I have heard boys are tougher than girls(my 3 year old son was horrible to potty train.)I am sorry I can't help too much but understand your frustration.

hang in there, victoria is five and she just started we have gone a week and a half and she hasnt had any accidents YIPPEEEEEEE!!! i just wanted to say i know how u feel , especially with askn her do u have to go to the potty ,, no... five minutes later potty or worse . we make a big production when she uses the potty clapping and lots of verbal celebration so now when we go to the bathroom she ll come in and start clapping and yelling verbal encouragement, as im 43 im guessin i need all the encouragement i can get

I was wondering where you were. Thank you so much for the postcards. Peter and his class loved them. Peter was 7 when he was potty trained. He was on a strict schedule. We brought him about every hour for about 15 minutes. He wore underwear the whole time. We would bring him to the bathroom and see that he was dry we would praise him up and down for keeping dry. When he went to the bathroom in the toilet he got all the praise but also a little prize. If he went poop in the toilet we would really praise him and give him a prize. If he had an accident in his pants we would take him to the bathroom and change him, but make no eye contact and do it silently. We would not speak to him at all or hug him or anything else. We did not act mad at him, we just completely ignored what happened. It was hard because I would want to say something but I couldn't. The whole process took a few weeks of a strict schedule. The key is no pullups whenever possible. The only time I could put one on Peter was during church. The times we would have him sit on the toilet with no success, we would ignore. We would only acknowledge the successes. Which is only 1 hour a week so it wasn't a big deal. He is still not trained at night, but I think he is getting there.

Nicole became potty trained right before her 5 th b-day and I had to let her go with out pants on for the day to really crack down on it. Well, she is turning 6 in two weeks and she still has accidents(pee- doesn't want to stop what she is doing) and she still wears a pull up to bed. Good luck I know it is very frustrating.

Samantha--how are things going with the toilet training. I would have responded sooner but we have been out of town for a couple weeks. It is soooo hard to ignore the behavior because Peter would get upset. He lovede the praise when he had successes so that part was easy but the ignoring and having to look at him with a stone face was horrible, but so worth it. Good luck. Thank goodness I saw this thread! I have been going insane for YEARS trying to potty train Jenny. Her teacher this year has her wearing undies at school and she does pretty well, but come the time she gets home she immediately goes and puts on her "Curity Sleep Pants". UGH! It doesn't matter how often I take her to the potty, she still wets and soils herself. She will not stay on the potty if I walk away.

I am just glad to know that I am not the only one going thru this.

Gianna has trained all of a sudden just last week. We had talked to her about it for ages and occasionally if she was sitting on the potty for long enough she would do something, but last week we kept her home for the entire week and out of nappies and we were thrilled to bits when she just suddenly got it. She has had no wee accidents for the last 6 days, and just takes herself off to the potty then presents me with the goods when she's done. She's not quite there yet with poo- she lets us know just as it starts to emerge (I know, TMI) but that is getting better quickly. The last three mornings Gianna has woken up dry, which is more than my 5 year old son has achieved!! I am so excited to think that after 12 years of nappies the end is almost in sight.

Cecilie was dry during the day when she was about 3 years old. We put her on her potty regulary (when changing diapers, before and after meals, before and after bed) since she was about 18 month old. She showed us, that she wanted to go to the bathroom and it has worked ever since. Right after easter, when she was 3,3 years old she started having dry nappies in the morning. We now put her on the toilet when we go to bed and it works.
