I found your site last week, and it has been a great encouragement. We love our little Joel. He is a DEAR. I was one who as some of you did not ever expect to have nor think I would be able to handle having a child with down syndrome, or other special needs. God knew differently, and my husband's response brought me backed me back to reality. He said, Joel is who he is and we WILL love him no matter what. He helped me to realize that God has a plan for little Joel's life as well as ours, and He doesn't make mistakes. We have grown to love him as much as each of our other children. Each are special in their own ways. What treasures, and what a wonderful responsibility entrusted to us.
Joel was born 1/28/2006. He did not have any heart or thyroid problems, but his growth has been soooo slow. He just started eating this last week solids, and thus is filling out a tad, but it seems to me that he had so much fluid when he was born. His "jowls" would roll to one side or the other as you moved him. The next week or two, he lost all this, and he looked so much smaller. He only gained 200 grams a month, half a pound, I guess.
We are missionaries in Peru, and the Docs here said as long as he is gaining, not to worry. But, when he weighed 10 lbs at 6 and a half months, I was worrying. He supposedly weighed 7 at birth. I think he gained a pound in the two weeks he ate solids. Other than this, he is doing great. He has PT once every 2 weeks. We have a deaf 2 year old who we care for who was abandoned, and they get therapy together. Joel' s brothers and sisters love him and help a lot. Sorry for rambling.
Again, good to find the forum, and thanks for sharing your stories.

Can someone tell me how to add a pic?

So glad you found us! Your family sounds great. I'm sorry I can't be of any help in the slow growth as my Natalie, who's 3, has always grown pretty good, except for in utero. Hope to get to know more about you and your family.

Lisa
What a wonderful family you have! And all first names start with J! That's amazing!
My boy was small for many months. He weighted in at 3lbs 13ozs at birth. Like Joel Robert had no other medical complications. I spent many months trying to fatten him up. I must admit as soon as I introduced solids he didn't look back!
Hoping Joel starts to put weight on and follow in Robert footsteps.
Looking forward to hearing all about Joel's progress
BTW....I'm Linda, Robert's mom, a big welcome to the forum.

Welcome to Downsyn Lisa and family! This is a great site full of wonderful people. You'll get a lot of comfort and answers here. My son Reuben is 28 months old and we haven't had any growth issues, so I can't help you there. There is another little boy in our group, born the day before Reuben and he is much smaller, (weighs less than 20 lbs) but he has a heart condition and his mom and dad are built smaller than Wayne or I I think Reuben just has a natural stocky build.
It sounds like Joel just needed some solid food to fatten him up!
Anyway I know he'll continue to grow and thrive with your love and support! You have a great looking family. I look forward to hearing more about you all.
