I was just checking out the 80's big hair thread, and I started thinking about those great movies from the 80's that you could just watch over and over again. My favorites are Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science and Some Kind of Wonderful.

All of those scary horror movies-Friday the 13th and Halloween ones-used to love watching those at parties and pretending to be scared to get the boys to "Comfort" us!
Basic Instinct

Irene, Secret Admirerer had C Thomas Howell and Lori Laughlin. I can't remember who else was in it but it was a cute movie back then.

St. Elmo's Fire and Ferris Beuller's Day Off. I had our big kids watch Ferris a little while back. They were so unimpressed!

I loved the hitcher. Ever see Gross Point Blank? I know it wasn't an eighties movie but it was about a high school reunion for an eighties class. John Cusack is in that. I Loved him in movies back then and I still love him in movies now.
Ibby, we used to love Ferris Beuler's day off. I can still quote lines from that movie. I guess kids are just different now.
Was Blue Lagoon in the eighties? I used to think that was so dirty! (when I was about thirteen)
Purple Rain(my frst R rated movie- watched at my best friends house because we could get away with anything there!)

"The Outsiders" - we had to read the book for school and then we watched the movie - as if I weren't in love with the characters - whoa, what a cast! all the hotties when they were young - Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Machio, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, C. Thomas Howell (I think that's who played the main character, could have the wrong name.), and this is so pathetic, but the guy from Dirty Dancing - I can see him dancing, can't think of his name, I will as soon as I hit submit - anyways, he was in it too.
Big was awesome, The Goonies, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, Can't buy me Love, Back to the Future. Now I'm starting to remember... been a while!

Nothing in Common
As for Ferris Bueller, I don't know if my kids saw it, but they all like Danke Shein.

I did like Top Gun. I just loved when they were out playing volleyball. I had forgotten about Steele Magnolias. I really liked that too.

I LOVED Strange Brew. On my first date with hubby we went to a Chinese restaurant. The waitress tripped and spilled the plate on Chinese food on my clothes. Hubby looked really nervous to see if I was going to throw a hissy fit.....I just looked at the waitress and in my best Bob and Doug voice said, "I believe there will be no charge," and laughed! Hubby says that's when he knew he was with the right girl.
Thanks for allowing me to reminisce a bit!!
Ibby

Ibby, these are all date movies for me. We're the same era. If I figure high school graduation till I got married, that is the whole decade.

I haven't seen Strange Brew in years, but think of it often. I find myself humming that hockey tune quit a bit. When DH and I first got together - we used to 'steamroller' each other.
I would like to see it again - especially after seeing Brother Bear, but am afraid that it just wont be the same if I do. It is probably better preserved in memory.....that and it wasn't exactly a hit. I probably wouldn't be able to find it on DVD.

Here's a good link to see a pretty good list of 80s movies
http://www.nostalgiacentral.com/80/80movies.htm
Here are some of mine ~
Splash
Rain Man
An Officer and a Gentleman - sigh, one of my first romantic movies
On Golden Pond - I had such a crush on the actor who played their grandson - Doug McKeon
The Elephant Man
Dirty Dancing
Chariots of Fire
Arthur - loved Dudley Moore
Airplane - that stupid humor really got me back then!
La Bamba - loved Lou Diamond Philips
Nightmare of Elm Street - I don't do scary movies any more, loved them then!
Return of the Living Dead
Terms of Endearment
Back to the Future and the rest - loved Michael
Raiders of the Lost Ark and the rest - loved Harrison Ford
The Rocky movies

Weird Science was the first movie my hubby and I saw together. I embarassed to say we still laugh at the quote "chips, dips, chains and whips" from that movie.
I am not a big TV person but in Jusitn's early days of nursing/pumping difficulties I saw parts of The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris B and others. They still play those movies at all hours of the night!
Fun thread!

Oohhh... Fun thread! I'm such an '80's freak!
Weird Science, Just One of the Guys, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Outsiders, Lucas, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, St. Elmo's Fire, Grease 2... The list goes on and on, but these are my favorite GOOFY '80's movies! (Okay, so The Outsiders wasn't exactly GOOFY but the cast was YUMMY!!)

Has no one mentioned Less than Zero. OMG, my sorority house had that movie playing 24/7 in the social room. I still cry everytime I see the ending. I wish he didn't die. I just LOVE Roberty Downey Jr. I wanted to marry him!!!! And Jamie Gertz was just too pretty. She was in a sitcom not that long ago, she still looks great!
I also loved St. Elmo's Fire and Steel Magnolia's.
