We've been invited tomorrow afternoon to the 2-yr. birthday party of a sweet little girl w/DS that we met at our local Hearts for Horses event last weekend.

I want to get her something special that would be on her level and that she'd really like. She's not walking yet; apart from that, I don't know much else about where she is developmentally (she was in Daddy's arms the whole time I saw her last weekend.)

Any suggestions of toys your 2-yr. olds adore?

Kind regards,
Kristin

I have a 2 year old, but he is a boy, so I'm not sure how much help I can be! I was just looking through a toy catalog, though, and came up with some of these ideas:

1) Anything musical...maybe a little toy piano/keyboard/xylophone...

2) A doll...

3) Anything princess usually seems to work for girls...

4) Finger paints/playdoh...

Um.......
Good luck! Wink

My 2 and a half year old with DS loves, loves, loves books. She doesn't like the baby board books anymore, but loves anything with a story. She is also very fond of children's picture dictionaries that are geared to 6 to 8 year olds, and flash cards with pictures, words and numbers. She also likes her doll, doll carriage and bottle to feed the doll, fake food for picnics and to play in her toy kitchen and her easel where she loves to draw.

A ball! A soft rubber one thats not too hard. Robert just love rolling, throwing, fetching, turn taking, etc. We spent about a hour this evening play with one!

He had a fisher price music one as well.....He loves that when he was younger.

I got it at Target for Alex & just got another for a birthday gift last week. If your little friend isn't quite ready for it, she will be soon enough. Great for fine motor skills & he enjoys playing with it.

Thanks so much for all the great suggestions! Very Happy

After heading to Target and endlessly deliberating, lol, I ultimately chose this:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_3/601-9403506-5208904?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000ETRENS

I picked it b/c it had lights, music, and vocabulary, PLUS it can be set in either English or Spanish (this family is mostly Spanish-speaking, the dad speaks some English, the mom very little.)

What do you think? Did I do well? All my kids kept stealing it before I could wrap it, so I took that as a good sign Laughing!

We just got home from the party. It was lots of fun -- a real Mexican fiesta with lots of yummy food, and a pinata, of course! My kids all had a blast.

There were 3 children there w/DS -- the birthday girl, Allison, who is turning 2, her friend, Angel (little boy), who is 3, and our own Miss Sophie.

I chatted with Angel's mother about health insurance woes -- he is currently uninsured, and we're looking at that problem come January, too. Sad Angel is doing very well developmentally, but needs to have heart surgery next year. Allison has AFOs, so I got to learn more about those. She and my 2-yr. old DD Charlotte spent almost an hour sitting in the wood chips on the playground, filling the skirts of each others' dresses full, lol.

Okay, got to get kiddos ready for bed; thanks again!

Kristin
