There are a couple of people here with more than one child with down syndrome. If you are concerned about the possibility of having another child with DS I think there are some old threads that talk about this. I can try and find them if you like.

yah that would be awesome.I'm considering having another baby,I'm 35 and I'm scared...I also have been told by my doctor to go see a genetics doctor but after reading all the comments from the other moms about this subject I'm confused.I know I could defiantly handle and love the next one unconditionally as I do my others I'm just scared. It's alto of work.I'm just curious how many moms have more than one?Is that a bad thing?

Of the members here, Mary Beth has two with DS and Pookeymom has identical twins with DS. As far as I know the others with more than one child with DS are adoptive parents. Here are a few threads I found:

Vanessa

I don't have two kids with DS but I do have a son with DS and a niece with DS also. Robert is two, Kelly is almost five. Kelly is my sister's third child. Both kids have trisome 21, not genetic downs!
I have just come back from a birthday party and Kelly was there. I don't see her that often as she lives three hours dirve from us. She is a wonderful child.
And it goes without saying...so is Robert!

There was another lady here awhile back with 2 kids with Ds... the first had regular trisomy 21 and the second had translocation... go figure!

Anyway, your chances go up 1% for your next baby to have Ds too... I say that's totally worth the risk! Wink Good luck whatever you decide!

We saw our geneticist on Monday and asked the same question. From what she told us, the chance of having a second baby with DS is one in one hundred (1%).

We had the same concerns, although we love Cameron unconditionally, it is a lot of work, and the health issues are hard to deal with.

I am the one with identical twins with Down Syndrome. My odds are pretty slim to say the least. Its not as common to have identical twins and to have Down Syndrome on top of that.... Our DS clinic in Pittsburgh told us that we are only the 4th case of identical twins with DS that they have heard of or know in PA in 25 YEARS!!!!

We are finished having children, we have five now, but if we weren't I personally wouldnt worry about the odds, heck I've broken all the odds....LOL

Hi, I'm Mary Beth and I have two children with DS. I have 7 children altogether. Sam is 9 years old and was born when I was 36. He has T-21 and also had TOF heart defect. He was my fifth child. I then had my son Shane who is 8 years old and typical. My youngest is Katarina and she is 4 years old and was born when I was 42 years old. She has T-21 and was born with Complete AV Canal Defect. I know of 3 other families in my area that have more then one birth child with DS. I would talk to the genetic doctor to find out what type your child has and if it is genetic. If it's not genetic then I would go ahead and have another child. All the families that I know around me that have two children with DS had one or more typical child in between or had 7 years between the two children with DS.
Mary Beth
