Max has been eating 1st stage baby foods for a month and a half now. He always seems hungry. His babysitter said "HE'S STARVING!" He has 1/2 jar fruits with oatmeal and a 4oz bottle in the a.m., juice mid-morning, 1/2 jar veggies with a 4 oz bottle at noon, 4 oz bottle in the afternoon, and 1/2 jar veggies with a 4 oz bottle for supper. I don't want to overfeed him, but I don't want him to be hungry either. I was wondering if I should increase his feedings to a whole jar? Also, should I add fruits with his afternoon bottle? Would be ok for a six month old? Do babies at that age normally take that much? It's been sooooo long since I've had a baby,....15 years to be exact. All you mothers to 6 month olds,,,,,help!!

I'm always a later solids person then normal as they get most of their nutrition from formula or breastmilk. So I'll just tell you what Justin-10 months old eats. He has a mashed fresh banana a day broken down into 3 servings. I mix 1/2 a jar of either another fruit or a veggie with this. So he is having a banana and a jar and a half of baby food a day and nurses. I haven't started any grains or meats yet. HTH

you might try giving him some oatmeal or rice (but rice can constipate) cereal mixed with his formula so that he's still getting the 'good stuff' and also something filling rather than more vegs/fruits just yet. sounds like he is eating well - good job Max! aj

i dont feel mayson anything but her formula for breakfast yet. she usually has 1/2 of a fruit with oatmeal cereal mixed with formula for lunch. the then has a 4 oz bottle after that. for supper she has started the stage two foods like chicken noodle dinner or turkey rice dinner and a 1/2 jar veggie with it. she loves the dinners and they seem more filling too. of course she has formula bottle in between times and one before she goes to bed. she isnt too hip on the juice yet.
we dont buy the stage one foods anymore. the stage 2 are the same but more in the jar and more variety. i suggest trying to feed him more or maybe something with more substance like cereal. good luck!
hope that helps!!

Matt started solids at 4mths, so by 6mths (after his heart surgery), he was eating a whole jar of food for lunch, and the same for tea, along with a baby yoghurt. He would also have a whole jar of baby porridge for breakfast. And would probably have 4x 4-5oz bottles per day. I made it that he had water with his meals, and bottles at other times, so he probably ate/drank something every 2-3hrs.
But Matt's always been quite a big eater!!!

Cameron is 18m, so it a little fuzzy... Are you sure you are giving him enough formula or breastmilk? Your doctor can figure out how much he should be getting based on his weight. He should still be receiving their nutritional needs from the bottle. My doctor always had me do 1 spoon feeding at 4 months, then 2 at 6 m, 3 at 9 m.

At 6 months brock was still mostly formula - but was drinking more than what you indicate that you give Max. I recall talking to our ped and uping his forumula intake based on what I thought was him being hungrier in-between bottles - we definitely got up to 8 oz at a time on bottles - which slowed down his hunger pains. He would general also eat cereal in the a.m. and then we added the veges and other baby foods between 6 and 9 months - by 9 months he really switched more to the stage 2 baby foods and quickly went to table food. He is still a great eater and usually take 24 oz of whole milk per day.

Prior to a year, my ped always told me breastmilk/formula was most important. So I would look to increase his bottle intake. I believe ideally under 1 year, 20-32 oz of milk/formula a day.
I started Daniel on Mixed Grain cereal at 4 months. Daniel always preferred food over the bottle....so his milk intake was always on the lower end...low 20s. He always ate alot of food. I would say at 6 months, he had a bottle in the morning 6-8oz and bowl of cereal. For lunch, another bottle with 1 jar food (fruit or veg) and dinner 6-8oz bottle and cereal and another jar of food (either fruit or veg).
So over the course of a day, he drank 20-24 oz milk and 3 serving of either cereal, fruit or veg.
Around 10 months or so, he started eating regular table food. He never ate stage 3 food. He didn't like it at all. He just ate regular food that we ate.
Hope this helps!!
