Hi everyone! I finally decided to check this place out and join in. I have to first off say, man, there are some BEAUTIFUL kids out there! Holy smokes! I'm loving all the siggy pics. I recognize some of you from other boards, but I see ALOT of new faces.

Anyways, I'm Lacia, proud mom of Nolan (4), Kaia (2-DS) and Pierce (almost 4 mths). I live in Ontario, Canada. I had no idea Kaia had DS until the day after she was born. The doc suspected right from the time she was born, but for whatever reason chose not to mention anything until the next day. He told me his suspicions while I was by myself no less!! DH had gone home to take care of our son. I was nothing short of devastated to say the least! But now I look back and wonder what I wasted all my tears on, cuz she's awesome!!

At only barely 2 years old, this child surprises me everyday! She is doing way more than I imagined possible, thanks to all the DS myths out there. She is into anything and everything. Thankfully she has had no health issues, except she had a T&A surgery in May and also had tubes put in her ears due to fluid and some hearing loss. Her ped has recently discovered a heart murmur so we will be seeing a cardiologist in the next few months. Not sure why it appeared all of a sudden (if that's possible), or if it was just missed all this time (in which case I'll be a little upset).

Anyways, enough babbling, I'll try and attach a pic or two for you.

Hi, I'm Jen mom to Brock who is 14 months. We live in Iowa (midwest US). I'm glad you joined us - Kaia is beautiful. Brock does not have heart problems - but our ped told us that at some point all kids have murmurs - it is just whether they are heard and that all don't cause problems or need for treatment. Good luck with Kaia's card appt.

Welcome! What a beautiful little girl! Your comment about the cute kids around here is so true... I just "joined" a couple of weeks ago, and that's exactly what I was thinking when I found this site. I have a little guy, Will, who is 10 months old and has ds. Looking forward to getting to know you and your family!

I recognize you from another site, I rarely post there. Kaia is as beautiful as ever. So glad you joined us here and hope you feel at home. Where in Ontario are you??? Close to NY? I am about 30 minutes from the border. Anyway, I am here because of My Kennedy. She turned 3 this month and started school! Yikes! I have never known such amazing ove existed until I had her.
Hope to hear lots from you. And congrats on Pierce! I am sure you are busy with 3 little ones. I had 3 under 3 1/2. Life has gotten much easier since. Post more pics!

Welcome! Kaia is so adorable. Murmurs can come and go. Joel had a small PDA & PFO at birth and you could hear a murmur. Then the NICU staff said the murmur from the PDA went away (you can not hear PFO's). 3 weeks later my pedi heard it again. I was upset because the NICU had told me it went away.

We went for a 2nd Echo a few weeks later and the PDA had just closed on it's own. My pedi told me that murmurs can be heard when things are closing. All babies are born with open PDA's & PFO's but ideally they should close right after birth but they can stay open a long time and not be a problem.

I look forward to learning more about you & your family.

My graddaughter, Olivia, is my reason for coming here. She is such a joy to our family! When she was born we were very lucky, because the doctor that delivered her has a nephew with DS and he told us how well he was doing.
