|
|
|
|
It's been over 6mths since the last time we met up in March. I think another UK meet is well overdue.
So does anyone fancy meeting up. I guess we're probably looking early to mid November - if your schedules are anything like mine.
Some of you may think it's too far, or want a change of scenery, but the place we visited last time where Jo lives, near Walsall, was great, and indoors. As we've got people from all over the country on here, that's a pretty central location.
Or if anyone's got any other suggestions, fire away.
If you're up for it, put your name down!!!
(It's about time I posted something without whinging about my boy!!!)

I'm up for it too....maybe we should have a vote on location and list where everyone lives - the Midlands obviously suits us but I don't know about those in Yorkshire/up north etc....

Can I just throw in a suggestion, Downs Ed in Portsmouth are having an open day at the end of October (during 1/2 term) how about meeting there?
I know its a trek, but they have so much to offer our kids, it's worth the trip.
Also in Portsmouth is a big outlet mall...cheap shopping and there is the historic dockyards with loads of things to do.

I up for something! I don't think I'd manage Portsmouth though - it'd take me about 6 hours to get there!!
But somewhere in the midlands sounds pretty good to me! I'm just on tenderhooks waiting for the insurance to sort out getting my kitchen floor and kitchen replaced which should happen in the next month!!

Diane - even if we don't have the meet in Portsmouth I am tempted to come down as we are not going away for half term until the end when we are having a night in Cardiff to visit the Doctor Who exhibition...I hadn't really thought about the open day - what do they do at one of these usually? Is it worth the trip - over 2 hours?

Diane, I agree, I'd love to visit the open day, but I guess it's not really ideal as a UK meet! Somewhere central-ish would be better.
Does someone want to start a poll??!!!

No, no no...it's too soon. I don't have my passport yet. I'm working on it.
Wish I could be there to meet all of you.

I would love to meet up with you all even though Nicky is so much older than all your children. I think somewhere in the Midlands make sense so no one has too far to travel. Are you thinking of a weekend, any particular date ?

I guess mid to late November would be best as then we could meet Naomi too! We'd probably do Saturday some time.
It would be great to meet Nicky but we'll have to find a place he can enjoy too. How old is he again?
This should be a really good meet!

Hello.
Nicky is 19 but one of the less able youngsters and is probably more like a toddler. He is very easy going and will be happy anywhere. I just hope that seeing him won't frighten other parents with young children into thinking their children will be like him when they get older. He has numerous health problems and his oxygen level is very low which has caused him to have additional brain damage.

No, we'll look forward to meeting you and Nicky. If we went to an indoor play-centre type place, would he be upset if he wasn't allowed to play? I konw most places have age/height restrictions. And I'm sure he'd get fed up just chatting to us adults all the time!
If we could guarantee good weather, it would be so much easier! We did go to a zoo/safari park once in Oct/Nov but it was pretty cold and wet. I for one, would prefer indoors and warm!!!
OK, how about 18th or 25th November?

Both of those are OK with me at the moment
Sarah
PS Do you have a specific venue in mind? Is there anywhere we could have the whole place to ourselves? There is a place in Coventry where you can hire hte whole area but you are only allowed 40 kids - but it only costs around £60-70 and maybe less for a disabled group as it is a sports centre for the disabled, but the equipment is not that exciting, but open and easy to keep an eye on the kids...but you only get 90 minutes.....do you know anywhere good?

Helen, Nicky wouldn't mind where we met, he is very easygoing. I think somewhere where we could hire the place just for us for a few hours would be perfect but I don't mind the idea of an outdoor place such as a zoo. We could wrap up warm, in fact we often go to Chester Zoo or the north Wales coast in the winter and its fun, we love the Zoo in the snow!
My preferred date would be 18th November.

So would 25th not be possible then - or would it be too soon> Of Sunday 26th? I know I can't do the first two weekends in December as got things on, but I'm sure we'd all love to meet up with you Naomi. I would anyway!!!

Hi Helen
I'm afraid we couldn't do anything before or on Sat 18th November as that is our charity craft fayre for our support group
I am up for a meet up even though I am very busy for christmas
What about a Sunday? perhaps in the afternoon after lunch time somewhere
There is a good indoor play area in a place called Fradley which is about an hour from Bham and half an hour or perhaps a little longer from Burton on Trent in Derbyshire
Other than that the place we met last time ( Crash Bang Wallop ) I can also get in touch with the woman who owns the place as she phoned me to say about us using it that she will reserve tables for us ( wouldn't have exclusive use though ) and she did say that late afternoon and tea time tends to be less busy ( We could always have tea there - or would that be too late for people travelling back )
I would love to invite you to our christmas party but we usually have a big turn up anyway ( last year 60 kids ) so it might be too much to include downsyn as well as we might not be covered for insurance ( although I would love to do it )
You may have to think about New Year ( it would be lovely to see Naomi ) as remember December is pretty busy for alot of people

25th seems to be a good option for most people then.
It's still ages away so gives us a good amount of time to sort and plan!
What does everyone else think, or would you prefer to leave it until after Christmas too?
We can always do another then as well!!!

Probably a little bit to far for us at the moment as Emma is a TERRIBLE traveller!! 3+hrs in the car with constant screaming just wouldn't be much fun for any of us.
We could probably make it as far as Oxford before wanting to leave Emma by the side of the road!!
