It happened........again

The dreaded word 'layoff' hit my household today. My husband was laid off from a nice job right after 9/11 (Oct 5th to be exact).

It happened again today Crying or Very sad He was told it was a financial decision and they couldn't keep his salary. There was talk about a month ago....and everyone has been walking on eggshells. You just kind of think once in a lifetime was enough.....but clearly it wasn't.

So, looking on the bright side.....he can collect (and I hear people are collecting for quite awhile now). We do own a small business (we supported ourselves on this business for 5 years....but once Daniel came it was too difficult to pay for our own insurance and the stress of the peaks and valleys with a small business was too much)....BUT we still have it and my husband can now devote himself to it full time again. I do have a job...and a pretty good one....and I carry the benefits. And coincidentially.....I got a raise yesterday....so I'm chosing to look on the bright side.

But I really didn't think lightening strikes twice..... Please say a prayer as we begin a new chapter in our life.

Praying for you.
I’m sorry this has happened.
It’s happening here too all around us, we live in a small mining town, 4000 people and 500 lost there jobs. It’s been stressful. In April new contracts are written up, for the country receiving our coal. They are saying it looks like the amount of coal wanted will be halved. If we loose our job it’s our house everything and no-where to go. It’s hard times. We will have insurance and wont have that worry as it’s all free here (well you know what I mean, not entirely free)

It is happening everywhere right now, but that sure doesn't make it easier, does it? We have our fingers crossed (and a resume out) for my hubby with his work.

Sounds like you at least have a plan!

Lisa,

I'm so sorry to hear this. My husband and I were talking last night about how scary things are right now. We were calculating his odds of getting laid off, which seemed low before his company's latest income projections were released. It's scary everywhere! I'm glad you have a good job and your husband has his business to focus on.

All my best to you!!!

It is super scary out there. We just went through another round of layoffs at my job this past week. I am still employed (thank the Lord) but a friend of mine lost her job and her husband is also out of work and they have a 4 month old baby at home. YIKES! I sure hope things start turning around in the economy!!

I'm sorry to hear this Lisa, but you are looking on the bright side!
At least Dan will have something to do with his time.

Here in Ireland things are very very bad with the recession. Tons of layoff across the board, builders, architects, production, computers, banking, etc.
We are just about to a mini budget to increase income taxes and other taxes.

I wonder when and where it will all end?

I was away and actually coming home when you popped into my head as I had heard that RI has the second highest rate of unemployment (after Michigan) in the country. I'm so sorry to hear about this, but glad you have a positive attitude (and benefits). I'll be praying he gets the job of his dreams soon.

Ugh, Lisa! So sorry to hear about Dan! Even though you have some things going right for you, it's still tough!

Things are kinda rough with us, too! Gary worked one week in December, one week in January, one week in February and will get two weeks in March. I guess right now people don't want to spend their money on gazebos! We've been on partial unemployment. It's a strange time for our country!

So sorry to hear about Dan's job, Lisa.
If you got a recent raise, that is a good indication that at least YOUR job is secure. We're all learning how to tighten our belts in this crazy economy it seems.
