We have to replace some of the dry wall in our basement due to the Great Rhode Island Flood! My husband, nor I, have ever hung dry wall before. DH got dry wall screws that go through the dry wall well, but will NOT go into the studs. What are we doing wrong???? Help!!!!

Wooden Studs? Metal Studs? Correct screws? Using a screw gun, drill, or a screwdriver?
If you can, you should find someone who's done this before to help you through it, particularly when you get to taping and mudding. It is not rocket surgery, but there are a few techniques that will help keep your loved ones and neighbors from finding out the depth of your vocabulary.

Wooden studs. I think we have used every device known to man to get those screws through the studs. Power drill, battery powered screw driver and a good old fashioned hand held screw driver. My hubby bought sheet rock screws, perhaps they are not long enough. He thinks those wooden studs are made of titanium.

I'm really liking the idea of getting someone in here to help us. Probably the best advice you could give us.

If the wood's that old and hard, you might consider using a small drill to make a "pilot hole" - not too big, just enough to get that screw goin in. It'll slow you down some, but should do the trick.

I usually use a course thread deck screw to make the hole .....cause I hate to chage bits all the time and I love plastering!

But that was going to be my suggestion.......

DH says that if your house is older than the studs might be a hardwood like oak and you might need to predrill the holes. I woke him up to ask!LOL!
