I'm really praying it's successful! Our goal is for 1,000 people to donate $3 each over the next couple of weeks. If it's a success, than in the future, if I can get good giveaway items then I can do this for Reece's Rainbow, St. Baldrick's and other families in need.

It's a fundraising giveaway for Alex, who has neuroblastoma. I just found out that his stem cell transplant workup will happen on his 6th birthday! His family needs money for a hearing aid, and of course, the real life stuff that happens despite your child going through surgery and chemo - a/c breaking, car repairs, food and gas while traveling to the hospital.

There is a one time $3 donation before you can enter the giveaway for a $379 Terminix Mosquito Sentry, which mists your yard with an all natural mosquito repellant. After your initial donation, you can enter more times the usual blog way, signing up to follow Alex's Caring Bridge journal, visiting the Terminix site, tweeting the link. There's even a bonus entry - if you have volunteered or served in the past year then post a comment for an extra entry!

Even if you cannot donate, please share the link so we can get 1,000 Friends for Alex!

Anara - thank you for doing this. What a sweet little guy Alex is - he is in our prayers.

AMAZING NEWS! An old college buddy of Alex's dad somehow saw the blog and his wife is a colleague of the Starkey Hearing Foundation http://www.starkeyhearingfoundation.org/, which provides free hearing aids to children in need!

Alex's family is in that spot where their income is always just over the limit to qualify for any extra benefits. Despiet the fact that his mom can't work, and they are paying almost $1,000 a month in insurance bills they have never been accepted for any assisitance. The board of the Starkey Foundation is waiving the financial requirements because they understand the family's dilemma and know that insurance will not pay! How awesome is that!

They usually have the kids come to an open clinic for fittings etc but because Alex will be getting his stem cell transplant when they are in Nashville they will let him be seen privately to protect him from illness.

Isn't God amazing! I was just praying last night about this, and this morning the old college buddy called my husband's office trying to reach me and Alex's family. WOW! I was praying because in addition to huge medical bills, we all know that if insurance will not pay for a hearing aid they probably won't pay for speech therapy. And Alex still has Autism and developmental delays so he will need a lot of catch up after this cancer treatment is done next year.

Humbling, isn't it? God answers prayers, even if it's not the way you expect or when you expect it, he's still there.
