After, like, 8 months of work, Clara will now wear headphones!
I want to get her a portable dvd player that she can carry with her around the house. She will sit and watch a movie now if she's wearing the headphones, but after 1/2 hour she starts to get wiggly.
I want an all in one, not the kind with the screen that you lift up. Fisher Price used to make one but stopped because so many were being returned. They are still sold on AMazon but I don't want the hassle if I have a problem.
What kind of dvd players are you guys using?

I just use a basic model. I think it is a chevron and it has the screen that lifts up. Talitha is very rough on it and I am surprised it is still working. She won't wear earphones for longer than a few minutes. We are running out of DVD's that she hasn't trashed and I am looking for a portable DVD player that will play from a media player via usb. We have her movies on a hard drive because most of the dvd's no longer play.
I will be interested in what people come up with.

We have a Sony we purchased at Best Buy -- buy the extended warranty! That's one of the best pieces of advice I ever got from the mom of three young girls. We have a 3-year contract and have had to replace it once at no extra cost -- the warranty has also saved me a few times with my digital camera. Lucas is rough on his too and it has the screen that lifts and rotates, it also has buttons on the front and he's learned how to open, play, FF, etc. so when he gets bored with the movie, he will play with the buttons to see what happens to the movie. Go figure! The DVD player is definitely a great investment.

We bought one yesterday. It's not the kid friendly type I pictured, but it was a one day special for $80, and since DH is not happy about this purchase I was able to console him with the savings.
Clara has had almost non-stop ear infections since May. She used to twirl her hair, but now if she is tired, bored, or upset she is pulling hair out! I've been able to stop most of that behavior, but if she's bored in her carseat then she yanks out handfulls. The only thing that stops her is "her" movies, and Alan is complaining. He will use the new one with headphones and he will hold it in his lap. Clara would toss it and she will not wear headphones in the car yet so it's her present but it's really for him or them.
Now, I have one to bring inside for games and when I want them both to wear headphones. I was dragging the other one in and out and making us late because she has to have it for a 5 minute drive. I told DH this is one of those times that it just is part of having a special needs child. I will not have her yanking out her own hair!
I don't use ear buds. I asked my parents to buy the kids the children's headphones that cover the ears and that have volume control in the line. They fit like the kind they use in the computer lab when she goes to Kindy. I also asked them to add headphone use to her IEP to help prepare her for the computer lab.
