John has been on a gluten-free diet for over two years now. We originally started him on a gluten-free diet out of desperation in an attempt to stop his horrible liquid diarrhea. We had some success so kept it up. Every test he's had has come back negative for Celiac, including recent genetic testing. His newest GI doc thinks his liquid poop was caused by bacterial overgrowth. He was treated for that and has shown improvement. He still had loose stools, so she suggested Benefiber to help increase the fiber in his diet. Last week my husband and I decided to start giving John gluten again to see if he can tolerate it. And . . . so far, so good!!! In fact, his poop has been excellent! He isn't just sampling things, either. We jumped right in and have given him all kinds of stuff we haven't let him eat in ages--biscuits, whole wheat noodles, crescent rolls, cookies. No distended belly. No diarrhea. I've said all along that if he was ever able to go back on gluten, I'd dance naked in the streets. Hopefully you'll be hearing about my arrest on the news soon!

Woo Hoo! I trust Leah will let us know where to see the footage! The less restrictive diet must be much easier to deal with too.

We deal with food allergies in our family, too, and so I fully appreciate what this means for John and your whole family -- hooray!
I was beyond relieved when we were finally able to determine that Sophie isn't allergic to peanuts -- anaphylactic allergies are very stressful, but so much more so when the person who has them is developmentally disabled, too. I lived in dread for almost 4 years that this would be her future.
Kind regards,
Kristin
