OMG how sad! I am happy someone spoke up and they investigated and found the boy alive....atleast he may have a chance at normalcy. I feel bad she felt she needed to hide her son. There needs to be better support. [/u]

I don't condone this mothers actions AT ALL.
But, I bet she did ask for help, and was told there were funding issues, or the help just didn't exist and she was SOL...
I've asked for help, and I have gotten next to NO help. I don't think we all need to go through everything I've been through again...but seriously. This is the perfect example of why there needs to be a strong support system put in place from DAY 1 for parents of children with special needs.
I can't say I feel bad for the mom...that poor child didn't deserve what he got...thank god someone found him before he died.

That's horrible. Although it is interesting to note that in the article they don't mention the boy has Down (or if it did say it I must have missed it and looked for it about three times). It is only mentioned when listening to the clip. Strange.

I actually noticed that, too. I thought that perhaps it was a way for the writer to emphasize that this treatment was not ok for any child and that his having Down syndrome didn't/shouldn't matter.

The grandparents are trying to get custody. Obviously they care about this little boy so I hope they win custody.

So very sad.
Some years ago there was a story just like this one. The boy was 5 when they found him and weighed in at 19lbs. He was under the care of his grandmother at the time. She feed him once a week and in between the boy would eat the wall paper off the walls. Seeing the wall in the paper just broke my heart. He is in foster care now and is doing very well.
I pray this little boy recovers. sad and sicking.
