Your boy is GORGEOUS!!! We are in the waiting pool with Robin Steele. How long did you wait for your sweeties? We are hoping to be able to adopt this year. We do want a baby girl, but otherwise we are pretty open and willing to accept most medical needs. I know Robin placed 42 babies last year, but there are close to 200 families on the list. I am hopeful because DS and I are both in our 30's, and we only have 2 children at home (so far.)
I'd LOVE to hear about other experiences with getting a child through Robin, what your experience with the birth family was like, did you have to travel to another state and how was the wait there (and how were your other children while you waited.)
Also, do you have any advice for us? We plan to call all agencies and adoption attorneys in our area. Any other ideas?
Details please

I hope you find your daughter soon We too are registered with the NDSAN. We got our homestudy done last April and was matched in July, things didn't go as we had hoped and the birthparents ended up changing their minds and kept their little girl. Since then we have submitted our profile for other babies but have not gotten matched again.
We are open to almost all medical, all states, all races and either gender. I think the wait is different for everyone and have heard of families getting a match right away and others waiting months to a year or more.
From the birth families we have heard of they each have different things they are looking for in an adoptive family. Some want a family with experience with DS or for the family to already have a child with DS, some want a family close to where they live so it's easier for visitation in an open adoption, and there are many other things. Where do you live?
Is there a reason you are only open to girls? I only ask b/c from the calls we have received it's been more boys than girls......not sure if it's typically that way or just how it's been for us.
Good luck and let us know when you get matched!

We live in Nashville, TN. We want a girl for a few reasons... we have two bio boys and I am also trying to be sensitive to my broader family because of my nephew that we lost to leukemia. Many DS children look so much alike, and I think it would be better and less difficult for my family if we get a girl.
I am sorry you guys are having a difficult time. Where do you live? Do you have other children at home?
I know the wait will be difficult for me, but I believe that our child is out there.

We live in WI. We have 4 bio children (2 boys and 2 girls). We also have a nephew with DS who is 21. He lives pretty far away and we only see him once a year and the older he's getting the less we are seeing him
The wait is very hard, but what has been harder is when we submit our profile and hope to be chosen and then are not........it's hard not to get your hopes up or think about "what if" this is our child.
In the past 10 months or so we have heard or been told about 14 different children (only 3 of them were girls). Are you just wanting a newborn or open to other ages? We are open to a newborn up to age 3, so a couple of the ones we were called about have been 2-3 years old and in state care. I keep a log of calls, situations, etc so that I have record of our adoption journey.
Oh and I wanted to clarify that we heard of 14 situations but did not submit to all of them.......for various reasons. I believe we have submitted our homestudy for 8 different situations.

We are open to a child up to a year old at this point. We may change our mind as time progresses. You idea of keeping a log is a good idea. I am in the process of creating our family photo blog for the birthparents, and we plan to have our homestudy complete by May (just started,) so I am realistically thinking 2014 may be our year. I am also planning (once the homestudy is ready) to contact all of the social workers at our local hospitals, and all the local adoption agencies and attorneys to let them know of our desire to adopt a baby with DS. Many times they child is born and immediately put into the foster system if there is not a family waiting. In our state, you must foster before you can adopt from kids already in the state foster care system. I'd love to find a private adoption through one of our local hospitals....that would be awesome

You are right about h=being in th eright place at the right time......... we have adopted three through an agency..... two through cps / dfs one was identified with Robin. We have been called several times with Robin but all times it worked out the way it was suppossed to .............. and not for us either by birth parents choosing another family or deciding to parent after we had been choosen. Either way we were part of a process and a little one had tons of people who wanted and loved them!
I think for each child we actually took........ there were about 10 to 15 call and possible children............ it is a heart wrenching time but I always believe Eric and I receved the souls that were the missing parts of ours........ many times not the easiest parts but the missing parts and we all are traveling this road together............
I would do it one more time maybe two............ but alas I am older and wiser and though i own a bus my house is not that large so we are done till I win the lottery!
