Austin had his first official Music Therapy session. He loved it. He stayed right with the therapist the whole time...total engaged. He played the drums, tamborine, guitar and shakers. Austin was in heaven. Here are some photos from his first "Jam Session."
Anybody else have music therapy and what do you think???
" Okay...you play the guitar and I'll play the drum."
"We're jamming now!!!"

Angela has been in music therapy since she was 3. She now gets it 4 days a week at school and loves it! I swear they have a song for everything!

Oh Amy - it's not offered here Believe me, I've asked about it. Grady LOVES music. He dances to anything with a beat. Even the cappachino machine at the gas station!!
Austin looks like he's having so much fun.

Kathy,
It's not offered here either. I found a professor at a local college and he is contracting with me privately. NOt through EI. I'm going to pay for it as long as I can afford it. But he loves it. He doesn't dance tho...he just jams on the instruments and loves it.
Leah, How cool that its offered in school. Hope we can get that too.
AMY

We're in a really large school district, and there is one thing about it that is kind of controversial, but it works great for us. That is all the kids with "issues" are bussed to one building. It's in the regular elementary building, and the kids are mainstreamed as much as is in their IEP's. But it also means there are 40 kids in the building so they can bring in a music therapist and hold 4 different classes every day! It's AWESOME!!!! Also, there are so many kids in the building that the typical kids are VERY used to being around them!

hmm, that sounds like a good idea. As soon as I posted that, I thought of hiring someone privately who isn't really a therapist. I'll look into that.

I just signed up to take a Tiny Tots Notes music class with Larkin.
It is offered thru our local park district. Have you looked there for what is available?

Henry's music activity person is a college student who is majoring in music therapy. She's a junior. Henry loves her and she comes up with really great ideas!

Elijah has music therapy through his EI program (just got MT in July in our county) HE LOVES IT!!!! We have it weekly and occassionally cross over appointments with the PT or OT, so the music therapist can incorporate all their goals during music therapy!! We are moving in a few months and am so going to miss our music therapists!! She is a doll!!!
Here are some photos of Elijah during therapy.
