Hi, My name is Sue and our son David, who has DS, is nearly nine months old now, born 28th Oct 2005. I found this site the other night when I couldn't sleep and it was great to read stuff from others who know.
My husband, Dave and I are originally from England but have spent a good deal of the last 7 years or so here in Spain. We planned to move out here permenantly after David was born, we came back to Spain when David was a couple of weeks old, but we still have most of his routine check-ups in England.
It's been a steep learning curve for me since David was born, but he cuts me a lot of slack! He's such a contented, happy baby, full of fun and loves lots of cuddles. He's progressing really well, he can sit by himself and can pull himself to standing holding on- still very wobbly tho! He babbles mamama, dadada bababa and sometimes seems to respond to his name- but I could be imagining it.
David was full term and a big baby, 9lbs and has grown well. He has a small ASD, which is under review, it may or may not need closing, but otherwise he's healthy, thank God.
I'd love to add a picture but i'm afraid I don't know how!
Sue

Welcome Sue! It sounds like David is doing just fabulous!!! There is a thread somewhere on how to post a picture... check the photo forum!
Wow from England to Spain!! I have to say I'm jealous! I would love to visit both of those places! Will David be bilingual? My husband speaks fluent Spanish but he's not home long enough to teach the kids! LOL
Anyway, welcome to the board, I hope you love it here! Can't wait to see pictures of your little man!

Hi Sue. So glad you found us. My little Talitha is nearly 8 months old and Downsyn has been a real godsend to me. David sounds like he is doing great. Here is the bit that tells you how to post a picture:

Hi
David sounds like he is doing REALLY well, so you should be a very proud mum! Whereabouts did you use to live in England? I'm from Nottingham, and my ticket to this forum is my little lad Matt. Hope you manage to post a picture soon!

Hi Sue,
Our family just moved back to the states from Ukraine after the birth of our third daughter Polly. In Kiev there is no early intervention, but maybe some day we'll get to return there. We have some acquaintances that work with our group in Spain. They have a little girl there with DS. They all seem to be doing well. I hear that Spain is very progressive with differently abled people. I'm glad you found this site.

Hi Sue, I am new here too ~ actually will post an introduction soon - maybe even after this. I must comment on David's birth weight - 9 lbs He is a big boy. My son, Owen, was born June 29th with ds and was 9 lbs 3 oz. The high-risk doctor that was monitoring us before birth said the largest ds baby he ever saw was 8 1/2 lbs.

WElcome welcome to this amazing site! I hope you find it as helpful as I have. Your little guy is just the cutest! He sounds like he is doing amazing too! He looks very strong and happy. I love his eyes. I have a 22 month old, Avery. and she is just such a light in my life! It is amazing how quickly our lives can change. Mine is definately for the better. I didn't know it at the time she was diagnosed. I was too struck by grief, but now I can see how she has changed all our lives for the better.
