Tom,

Can we get the link to the map added back in somewhere. It's at http://www.frappr.com/downsyn

The link in the sticky post on the general board doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Thanks!

I'm trying something a little different. I never really liked Frappr so I have integrated some PHPBB code into the forum so that we now have a fully integrated map. You can set your coordinates in your profile.

I looked at the map and was able to zoom in until I could see the name of my street, but how do I know my coordinates? Did I miss something?

After you select "Find your coordinates" in your profile you will get a map. When you click on that map, a box will appear and there will be a link in that box that says "set this as my location". Click that link and it will automatically fill in the latitude and longitude.

I am working on an option to let you put in a zip code and have the latitude and longitude auto-filled.

And now you can add an image to appear in the box with your username. More enhancements to come. It's fun to be on vacation! Wink

Now you can lookup your latitude and longitude by zip code, postal code, or city. Thanks Google!

Only registered members. Everyone else gets a screen asking them to login or register.

So if you don't put your coordinates in your profile, no one can find you right?? The pins are from people that put there coordinates in right?

Yes, that is correct. The only people on the map are people who want to be on the map. If you are on the map and don't want to be, you can just remove your latitude and longitude. You can also specify your location in a vague way... by state for example.

Because Google is based in the USA and not in Australia? Wink

Being the clever programmer I am, I updated the map using the location field from your profiles. Unfortunately I messed it up so that I cleared all the coordinates BEFORE I updated with the location so:

1) If you were on the map but didn't have a location, you are not on the map now.
2) If you were on the map and your location wasn't found by google you are not on the map now.
3) If, for example, you were on the map in Columbus, OHIO but your location was just OHIO, you are on the map in the middle of Ohio.

If you don't want to be on the map, just remove your coordinates from your profile.

If you want to be on the map and you aren't or you want to fix your point on the map, update your profile.

You can also add a greeting and picture to your point on the map.

Tom,

Could the default zoom for the map be set so that we can see all the countries and could it be centered somewhere in Europe so that we get a more global picture when we first look?

Yes. The default view right now is supposed to be centered on your location. I think the only downside of viewing the entire earth is that it has to load every point. Right now it cheats by only loading the points you can see and then loading more points when you move the map. So for soeome in Australia the map probably comes up pretty quicly while for someone in the US it takes awhile because there are so many points in the US.
