Hannah has been getting pull ups for use at night through the medicaid waiver. I got a call from our suppplier last week that medicaid will not cover the cost of the pull ups so they will no longer supply them. they will cover diapers in her size and adult size pull ups. Now, Hannah uses them at night only and she really probably does not need them anymore, she wakes up dry like 99 percent of the time now but this annoys me. I can't imagine putting Hannah in a diaper at this point. It just seems stupid to me that kids who need the pull ups for learning potty training need pull ups not diapers! I don't mind covering the cost of her pull ups I am just mad at the whole system. I think this is rediculous!

They did this to me a couple years ago. I used to be able to go to Hannaford and pick up a case of Huggies Pullups. Now i need to go to a medical supply store and get some type of generic pullup. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, maybe they know of some way to still get some type of pull up.

I feel bad I even posted this. I don't mean to seem ungrateful. I resalize there are a lot of people who don't even get any help with pull ups. I am just mad at the reasoning. They will pay for adult pull ups but not kids...Anyway we are doing well, Hannah started wearing underwear to bed about two weeks ago and we have not looked back since.I just get upset sometimes at the reasoning(or lack of)about these things for our kids.

i know what you mean. I used to feel kind of guilty getting his pull ups this way, but I got over it pretty quickly. Peter is just about out of them at night. Most nights he is dry. We are going to have to bite the bullet and see how things go with just underwear. Right now he does not like to wear pullups. He sees his sister and brother without them and all the neighborhood kids without them. I think he is embarassed sometimes.

This is the same system that will pay for a trach but not the trach ties which hold the trach in. I had a patient who's trach was held in by shoe strings. That is just plain wrong. Plus might I add those elastic shoe strings didn't hold it in. I found her waving it around many times. (talk about the scare of a lifetime. I know you weren't sounding ungrateful. It's just medicaid doesn't make sense does it?

This is a little OT regarding your post, but I noticed that you mentioned Hannah is on the Medicaid Waiver. I have my son on a waitlist for the MedWaiver ( there's been a waitlist in the state of Florida since 1999. Julian's been on it since early 2004...and he'll probably be on it for another 2 or three years:( ). Do they put an income cap on you when your child is on the waiver?? I wrote to the state asking them about this and basically they told me that when Julian gets on the waiver if he isn't eligible for Medicaid at that time they will count him as a "family of one", meaning they will consider his income rather than the family income. Well...he has no income, so therefore he gets Medicaid. We currently have Medicaid through SSI, which I hate 'cause it makes us stay under a specific income limit so he can keep the Medicaid, which is the only thing that will pay for his therapy. I hate it...I feel like I'm gonna be stuck under the government thumb for the rest of my life. SSI allows you to make basically enough to pay your bills. I can't save money because then that's a "resource". I have to hide any extra money I do have. It's ridiculous. I'm just wondering that if (when...who knows) Julian gets on the MedWaiver and he has Medicaid at that time..if I take him off SSI and he loses his Medicaid through them will it be picked up through the MedWaiver? I know that's a really long question, but I've not talked to many people whose children are on a Medwaiver program. Florida hasn't had constant funding to the Medwaiver program since 1999, hence the stupid waitlist. They told me at the time Julian got on the list that it was a 2-3 year wait. In January or February (it's been so long I can't even remember) he'll have been on the list for 3 years. From what I've heard from them they are barely through the people that got on the list in 2000
. I hate state programs....

This may sound crazy, but try contacting the maker of Pullups directly. Tell them your situation. It's worth a try. My sister had twins and called the manufacturer's of Similac and told them that she was in need of formula and wanted to know about coupons and stuff, and they sent her case after case after case of Similac. The UPS man would just come by and deliver it in the garage. She had so much that she ended up giving some away cause she couldn't use it all. So it's worth a try for the Pull ups as well.

In NY there is no income test for the waiver. The only requirement is that you aren't eligible for medicaid because of income.
But the waiver basically IS Medicaid, right? Or is a limited form of Medicaid? I have literally been researching this since shortly after Julian was born .Trying to get answers to questions regarding the waiver is next to pointless. I sent the state a very LONG e-mail asking lots of questions and did not hear back from anyone FOR ALMOST A YEAR. It's a nightmare. Right now we're only getting Medicaid because I have Julian on SSI. And he only gets SSI because I purposely keep our income under the maximum amount we're allowed to make. I could care less about the SSI money...it's Medicaid I need to pay for his therapy because there's nothing else to help pay for that...but the waiver. My goal is to eventually get him off SSI Medicaid and get him on the Medwaiver to help pay for therapy. the private insurance that dad has through work, which is ridiculously expensive to add Julian to the policy, does not pay for therapy AT ALL. If I didn't have Julian on SSI to get the Medicaid he just wouldn't get any therapy but the sorry excuse for therapy that they give him in school. Do you know people who have had their children on SSI for the Medicaid and then switched their kids over to the Medwaiver?
If we didn't have that stupid waiting list I wouldn't be having this problem at all. Thanks Jeb, you putz....
