Ladies, I was wondering....for those of you who have more than one child in your home, is/was your Downs child smaller in comparison to your other children at the same comparable age? I don't know why I was pondering that....I guess because I have a lot of baby clothes handed down to me for use and hope we get to make good use of them...lol. I know as they become older as in puberty and adulthood, they are quite a bit shorter than most teens and adults. I was curious if that was reflected in childhood as well.

I'm not keeping anything (except a few nice sweaters) to pass down from my older girls to Sadie. One because it's such a big age difference and also, Sadie has a bigger belly (low tone - my other girls are soooo slender) and her legs and arms are so short compared to the rest of her body. I can't imagine her fitting into much of what my other girls wear- or if she would want to. Example: My #2 doesn't like anything my #1 wears- #2 and #3 are the same size (#3 can be bigger) and #2 likes everything tight while #3 likes it sloppy. Anyway, I rather send it to someone who will wear it and keep the space in my garage for the other crap I'm collecting Very Happy

LOL....I hear you on the older girls not having the same likes in clothing. My #1 prefers the *alternative....ie...Goth wannabee* style of clothing while #2 prefers more trendy girlie girl threads. #3 could careless about fashion (mismatch is a fashion-lol), but she is larger in all directions than #1 and #2 were at the same age. Ho-hum.....

I'm trying to clear out the clutter in my garage/basement, spare floor space etc and sending it to Goodwill. I haven't the energy or time to even contemplate having a garage sale, nor do I want to go to all of that trouble....... Wink

Robert didn't earn the title of 'half pint' for no reason! LOL!
He is very small in size but he is starting to put on some weight since the summer.
He is the youngest of four boys in my sibling family. He gets all the hand me downs but we give a lot away to charity. He wouldn't be able to wear them all.

Benjamin (D.S.), at birth 8lbs 4oz, weighed in the middle of my other 2 children of 8lbs & 8lbs 8oz. He grew like a weed for quite some time, but at 4 y.o. we are beginning to see size differences in him and other children his age. There is a 10 year difference in my boys, so saving clothes is out of the question..........

Toys?............Benjamin smiles and his older brother smiles back and passes them over. So toys I have been boxing up to save.

All my kids are small, and have always been small. Rachael and Hannah are on 2nd centile for height and weight. Matt, however, is on 50th for children with DS (2nd for typical kids). So he's actually around the same size, maybe a touch bigger, than Rachael was at the same age. In his nursery, he's not even the smallest child - which I always imagined he would be. There are 2 other boys the same height, and I love that. Rachael has always been the smallest in her class, and hates it, so I'm glad Matt isn't.

Carson is much larger than either of my girls. I don't know if it is just because he is a boy or what. But, he is a big boy. I will be interested to see what he is when I go for his 6 month checkup. At 9 months he was 50% for weight and height on the typical chart. I think he is a lot taller now so we will see. He weighs 23 pounds and will turn one Sept. 26th.

Hannah was always typically smaller than kids her age. She usually gets away with wearing clothes for about two seasons. Now that she is a little older(almost Cool she is shorter than most kids her age but not by a lot. She wears about a 7 on top and and even though her legs wear about a five she needs about a 7 for her waist and belly. We just have to shorten a lot of stuff! We usually get lots of use with her clothing becasue she wears them so long. Hannah has a best friend who has DS the same age and she is the size of my four year old. Her mom buys her new clothes only becasue she gets sick of seeing the same old ones!

My first two kids were tiny and Anna is really tall in comparison (the older ones didn't even get on the growth charts until they wer 2 and have hovered at the 15% ever since. Anna at last measurement was at the 75% on a typical chart and off the charts on a DS chart. I never got rid of any of my oldest daughter's clothes so Anna has been wearing them, but what she wears as 2 year old, my older daughter wore as a 4 year old. Go figure.

Angela is extremely small. She turned 10 in June and she's the size of a 6 year old. HOWEVER, she's the same size that my oldest (now 19) was at this age, but that's because he had growth hormone deficiency. She doesn't, jut DS.

Grace is smaller than any of my other children were at this age. She is almost 15 months and is wearing 12 month clothes. All the others were always 1 or 2 sizes above their age at this point.

All my kids are small. My son who is 10 can wear size 7 shorts. He needs 8 pants because of the lenth my 8 year old daughter is tiny . She is the size of a 5 year old . She weigh 40 lbs. She was a little bigger then Abigaial was a this age. Abigail is about 5%-10% on the ds chart. Emily my 8 year old is about the 3 on weight and 10 on hieght. My husband and myself are small so we won't have big kids. I saved some of my older kids clothes but Emily was so tough on the clothes I had to throogh out lits of girl clothes. Adam was much nicer to the clothes I still have. So Abigail has to wear boy clothes. She is a little smaller but not by much.

Thanks for the replies. I guess these sweethearts come in various sizes and do not necessarily remain in the small range as children. I believe Murphy will follow her older sisters in that they have long spines and short legs. They got that from their father!

I just recently gave all Sadie's clothes she finally grew out of to my new little niece. I was surprised at how many pants, shirts, etc. she had. I realized that she stayed in the same size for so long- she had at least a whole wardrobe (alll the different seasons) in each size. I think with our typical kids, they grow so quick we just keep buying to keep up with them. I just kept buying to have new clothes- I totally got sick of the same things. I thought she would never grow out of 3 mos., then 6-9 months. Now she's hanging in at 12-18 mos.

Austin is tall. He is taller than Hunter was at this age. He's on the 55th percentile in height for typical boys and girls. This is smaller than my girls were at this age. But Austin also has a longer trunk ...shorter legs. He is 34 inches tall and 26 pounds at 28 months old. He can wear 2T shirts but his waist is tiny so he needs 18 - 24 month pants. Even then I have to pin them or take them in a stitch or two. He's not going to be small unless his growth pattern changes dramatically at puberty. His buddy Drake (Kelley/Klem) is just as tall.

Great question. Anthony is big for his age. He is running 80% in weight and 95% in height on the DS scale but he has a tummy. I have kept any clothes that was worth saving from my other children. All of them are different sizes. Alex was stocky, shorter legs, and a chunk. Andrew is so skinny that I can't find any jeans that fit him both in length and around his waist. Anthony (DS) seams to fit very well in all of Alex's clothes but I can't even try to put him in anything Andrew use to wear. Anthony seams to have shorter legs but average lenght in arms so far. But like I said he is a chuck and has a really big round tummy. I would rather not put him in anything that goes around his waits as it seams so restricting.

Gianna is WAY shorter than my other children, and most of them are not particularly tall. At 3 1/2 she is still shorter than most of the others were at 2. She has just gone into size 2 jeans (18-24 month). Although Gianna will not start school til she has turned 6, I bet she is still the shortest in the class.

Natalie is taller than I expected. Keep in mind that she is only 5 months so I am sure this will all catch up. I am short and dh is tall. Right now she is in the 77th percentile for height and 75th for weight on the typical child scale. She has grown 6 or 7 inches (hasn't been measured in over a month) since birth.

Is there a point that I should expect her growth to slow down and other children to pass her?

Ladies!! What about us guys!! Smile

Percy is much much much smaller!! Even without her failure to gain weight over the last 12 months (before her recent surgery) she is not very tall at all (hence being call 'short stuff' quite a lot!)

She's still in some 12 - 18month stuff at 31 months (but not for much longer!)

Russell is tiny even for the DS charts. He wore 2t until he was 4. He is now 8 and is only 42 inches tall and 45 lbs (can you say SQUARE! LOL). He wears a 4t or 5t pant and I buy his shirts a bit bigger, because you have to look cool you know! LOL.. He will wear a 6 or 7 but mainly size 6.
Reece, my youngest won't be 6 until Oct and she is taller then Russell and her foot is bigger then his. Most of Russell's peers with DS that are say 4 yrs or 5 yrs old are the same size as him and his peers with DS that are his age are WAY taller usually.

My husband and I love Russell being tiny though.. I don't know why but I love his petite size!

A.

My three older kids have been/are big for their ages; always in the high 90th percentiles for both height and weight and they all still look a couple years older than they are.

Lily is smaller at her age than they were. Still high 90's for height but 75th for weight.

Holy Cow Jaemen is tiny compared to my other two! Jayvier (my 10 yr. old) was 20lbs at 3 months, and Hailey was 20lbs at 6 months, so YES Jaemen is small. He's not even 20lbs yet at 19 months. I kinda like it though. My other two were so huge that they broke my back. I figure if he's not going to walk until he's 2 it's a great thing he's small then!!! Smile

It's funny, (William will be 5 in December) people say how tall he is or looks. His little brother, Sam, who is exactly a year and half younger is the same size as William. They appear to be exactly the same height. William's leg's are smaller than Sam's in width, that is. William has thin shins is what I'm trying to say in comparison to Sam. They're the same size in clothes, it's like having twins.

Anyway, sorry I went on and on. I always find it interesting about our little ones, especially when side by side with their peers.

Hope you get to enjoy all those clothes.

Libby

I thought Joel would take after me... no chance. I am 5'9 and my DH is 5'11. Joel will be 5 mths. old next week and he's probably right at 12 lbs. (can still fit in 0-3 mths.) He was born 21 inches and is 23 inches right now. My pedi thinks it's because he burns off everything he drinks.... he has been rolling over from back to tummy since 8 weeks old.... and scoots all over the place. Every child is unique.. I thought for sure he would be on the top of the DS growth chart since most of our family is over 6 feet. Just means he gets good use out of alot of his clothes.....

It's not even close with my 2. My daughter has always been off the charts tall. Daniel is now 15 months (his next doc visit is in a few weeks) He is about 20 pounds and 31 inches. Long and skinny. He wears 12-18 month clothing.

Elayna at 15 months was 33 inches and 26 pounds. Today is actually Elayna's 4th birthday and she wears size 5 clothes. I am guessing (since she hasn't been measured in a year) that she is about 44 inches and 40 pounds. They both go in a few weeks (Daniel's 15 month and Elayna's 4 year appts) so we will see how they are doing then.

I kept the generic clothes (no pink for my boy!! )of Elayna's for Daniel. The clothes she wore at 9-12 months....he is wearing now...and he just is getting into them. It's really cute to see him in stuff she wore. She had this baby Gap red sleeper. I love to see him in it!!

My Cameron was a little guy, weighing 5 lbs at birth. He has finally caught up and at 6 1/2 he wears a 6/7/8 depending on the brand of clothing. He is very tall and skinny. Kendall was my Big Girl, weighing over 8 lbs at birth. She was 26 lbs at a year old, yikes! She now weighs 42 lbs. She has always worn a size or 3 larger. She is 4 now and wears 5-6 jeans. Some 4's fit. Just depends. Kennedy is within a typical range on the regular growth chart. She weighs almost 35 lbs. She just turned 3, most 3t pants and shirts are too small. She too has a belly. I have found that if I buy size 4 capri's, they fit in the waist and also in length. She has shorter legs and a longer torso. She also wears size 4 shirts, sometimes a 4/5 depending on the brand.
I have saved some items from her sister as they are only 14 months apart. But Kendall is a "slob", and stains a lot of her clothing, I mostly saved decent stuff that Kennedy can wear as "play" clothing. LOL!

Sam was 2lb 5oz at birth (27 weeker) and Andrew was 6lb at birth (35 weeker) but now Sam is bigger than Andrew was at the same age.

currently...
Andrew (5 in Nov.) is 41 inches tall and 39 pounds
Sam (4 in Dec.) is 40 inches tall and 36 pounds.

I do find that Sam's limbs are a bit shorter but his has a much longer torso but in a pinch they could both wear the same size...ideally Andrew is in 4 reg stuff and Sam is 3T-4T. Now we only buy clothes for one child (the bigger one at the time) and then pass things down as needed. Right now my boys have sooo many hand-me-downs from cousins and friends I may never buy clothes again...LOL baby is fine but MAMA needs a new pair of shoes...lol

Funny how it is, but even though Murphy is still in the hospital, I looked at her and her torso is very long compared to her legs. Her feet are long and skinny and her hands are short. She is kinda mismatched in the proportions dept.....lol. My hubby measured her and he thinks she is about 21.5 or 22 inches long now. she is 2 mos and was born with a 19.5 inch length. we shall see how she grows...

Jenna has shorter legs than my other kids but she is off the Ds. growth chart and always has been. She is 21 months and wears 18 mo pants and 24 mo shirts. She is wearing her older sister's hand-me-downs. She weighs around 24 pounds. She is 35 inches tall now.

Megan is 35 months. She weighs a whopping 26.12 lbs. (almost 27lbs). She is only 31 inches tall. She wears 18mth pants and 24 mth shirts. Her arms, legs, hands and feet are really short. Megan and her 15mth old sister wear the same shoe size (5). So in question, yes, Megan is smaller in comparrison to my other kids. I am not sure how she rates on the DS growth charts though. I know she is healthy and that is all that matters...she is not starving Wink

In case all who have answered have you still wondering, well I will give you our scenerio. MaryEllen is as petite as a pea. In fact, any of the children who have ds, who live near us, their parents even marvel at how tiny she is. However, I must add, my sister is only 4'11" and this rings true for my mil as well. And a few more relatives, so, for us, is it the ds, or is it genetics? Everyone in my family is all excited, cuz the rest of my kids are unusually large, tall for our family, so this is fun for them. Enjoy your little sweet pea. God bless you.
