ENALAPRIL Question

just curious,

those of you taking Enalapril for heart issues;

what dose does your child get per day, assuming the medicine is prepared as 1mg/ml???

and what weight is your child that is taking Enalapril???

thanks, aj

Hi:

I know my Murphy will probably get to go home with Enalapril, but I'm not sure how much she takes at the moment. She has not yet had her AV Canal/Tet fixed, but since she has the palliative treatment (shunt), they started her on that a week or so ago. I will let you kow what her doasge is as soon as I am able.

Matt takes Lisinopril (which is virtually the same, so I'm told) and takes 2.5mg per day, in tablet form, which we crush and put in his yoghurt

AJ- Zack is on 1ml 2 times a day. Cardiologist said it is a VERY low dose? Zack is 19lbs.

Nicholas was on .6 mL 2x/day until July (around 19 lbs) then they bumped him up to .8mL 2x/day. He currently is around 22 lbs. It shouldn't change until they talk him off in December (our Christmas gift from the cardiologist - as long as the kidney specialist agrees). Nicholas' AV canal was repaired in March.

It is a suspension that we are to keep refrigerated....when we remember! Smile

Darah takes 1.25mg / day. I don't have to crush the tablet...I just put it in a bite of her food or just give it to her orally and she does quite well. Darah's cardiologist said Darah is on pretty high doseage?? I'm curious about everyone else's doseage too. She also said that Enalapril should be in the water because everyone would benefit from it.

She weighs 21.5 lbs (STILL!!! Rolling Eyes ) What is Janna's dose/weight?

Helen-How much does Matt weigh these days?

Edited to say: Darah will more than likely be on it the rest of her life.

McKenna, we're on it for life too they said, but i'm afraid Janna is on a sky-rocket dose Sad . i knew her leak was bad but i'll never lose hope nor faith.

she gets 4mls (of 1mg/ml) twice a day so that = 8.0 mg per day.

she weighed 23.8 lbs. last Friday.

thanks for your replies everyone, aj

LOL Laughing I (AJ) am getting big - well, bigger than i used to be, bigger than i want to be - LOL.

but yes, i know what you meant McKenna - Janna is growing well. we're still giving her Enfamil LIPIL w/ Iron. and as long as she keeps growing and tolerating the leak, her cardio is not persuing another surgery any time soon.

aj

KATIE - does Faith have Mitral Valve leak or what valve, since her surgery??? since she's getting a little over 5mg a day just wondering??? thanks, aj

Koby takes 1 ml twice a day. His is a ratio of 1mg/ml. He weighs about 21lbs.

Why do you ask?

Courtney - i just felt like the constant increase of Enalapril by cardio is a sign that Janna's heart/leak is getting worse although i think he doesn't let on how bad it is since she is growing and tolerating it so well??? is that a good assumption?

she's on 4mls of Enalapril twice a day and i know she's a little bigger than most of the others that posted in this thread but still it seems like she's on a high dose compared to everyone else. she doesn't weigh that much more than Darah, Koby, Zack, Faith, etc. i wonder what dose Henry is on? maybe Barbara will see this thread soon.

Janna is also still on Lasix and Aldactone - thought we'd drop those one day too, but it doesn't appear so. i'm just preparing my mind for what my heart doesn't want to know. and i'm praying for a LONG time to go by if we do have to face open heart again down the road.

thanks for any opinions in all this, aj

Henry is 3.5 ml twice a day and he weighs 40 pounds.

He is also on Lasix 20 ml a day and digoxin 1 ml twice daily.

He has his next cardio appt on October 20th. I'll let you know how it goes . . .

Oh as an aside. I didn't know the full extent of Henry's heart condition until I went to Cleveland, where they told me EVERYTHING! I love Charleston's MUSC, but they couldn't or wouldn't tell me that Henry's mitral valve would be repaired much less replaced (until June 9, 2006). After speaking with Cleveland doctors, I feel MUSC doctors knew all along. I guess they assumed I understood the full extent. My first clue was when they increased Henry's lasix instead of removing it from his regimen following his first heart surgery (as I hear they do with most of our babies on this website following heart surgery).

thanks Barbara! they've been up front with us on all the 'possibilities' but i just got to thinking the other day that it seemed like a high dose so i decided to see what everyone else was on. and yes, cardio did say her leak gradient is at a 5. he will not do anything until or unless it gets up to 8 or 10 and his first thing would be to increase the Lasix. since she is growing so well i'm not too worried but she was growing well before her 2nd surgery too Confused

but DH had a leak (different valve though) for 30 years and was on NO meds prior to his valve replacement in '03. so i really feel like there's hope for our kids to grow awhile as they are. i just keep praying for more growing time, aj
